Deep South Invite:
Position Comments:Spikes is a sturdy built medium framed kid with natural strength and bat-speed. At the plate he takes aggressive hacks and leaves no doubt about his ability to impact the baseball. In the future Spikes looks like the kind of kid that controls the zone and is dangerous to any pitcher that comes to him. Like the ability to show rare under control aggression in the batters box and is able to do so by his natural late finish to his swing. Defensively Spikes shows plenty of arm and is surprisingly light on his feet for his build. future second/third-base option and also a good enough athlete to fill a corner outfield spot down the line. No doubt value in the batters box, but sneaky utility value because of who he is and his sneaky athletic ability. Close Follow for us and excited about what is in his future.

Pitching Comments: Ryan Spikes has long been a young 2021 we wanted to see and he did not disappoint at the Deep South Invite. Spikes is a strong medium framed kid with a powerful build and explosiveness to what he does both at the plate and on the mound. The first thing that jumps out at you with Spikes on the mound is his hand-speed, he uses a full arm action to get to his high-3/4 slot and his hand accelerates with good tempo all the way through. His delivery works well and he appears to be a good strike thrower. Spikes does fall off the first-base side when he tries to do too much and will occasional loose extension and pull the baseball. His easy fast arm produced consistent upper 80's velocity at the event. He also flashes shape to his curve-ball at (72-74), but has not added the finish it projects to have in the future. All arrows are pointing up for this strong, compact and athletic right-hander. We are looking forward to watching him continue to build upon what is already an outstanding set of skills.
