Before we go into hibernation this offseason, we’re due a few more updates to each of the class rankings. While our national team works diligently to update the 2020 board this week, one that should heavily feature Georgia’s best seniors, we’re producing an update to the state’s junior rankings today.

We’re providing you with a better look at this class of 2021, that’s 225 names now, after a busy fall that allowed us to tweak the junior board just before the winter offseason.

Specifically, today, we’re going to be highlighting the top-10 names on the list. It doesn’t look too different than the September update, but there has been some new information gathered from our team at LakePoint that’s helped us carefully tinker with this top-10.

Unchanged since our first 2021 release back in April, SS/RHP Brady House (Winder-Barrow; Tennessee commit) is still the top-ranked junior in the state and the No. 7-ranked prospect in the nation. There isn’t much else to say about House that hasn’t already been said. He’s built for the gridiron, not just the diamond, at 6-foot-3, 217 pounds. He uses that size exceptionally well in the right-handed batter’s box, profiling with serious pop and an advanced eye and discipline that should help him make the most of his quality of contact. House is also equipped with a big arm which should help him make a smooth transition to third or a corner outfield spot – and given his present frame, he’ll likely need to. That big arm works on the mound, too. He’s been up into the low-90s before and has a feel for offspeed, which means you can’t write off his future on the rubber just yet. Either way, House is one of the country’s best 2021s and remains atop our own state board.

From the Atlanta-area Ben Franklin Academy, SS Rob Gordon propelled himself into the national scene this summer and it all culminated in a commitment to Vanderbilt in late July. He rocketed up rankings boards, especially our own, after guiding the Georgia Bombers to the 16U championship of our inaugural National Program Invitational at LakePoint. There, Gordon showed a willingness to leverage the ball in the air and was able to consistently generate hard contact with a wiry 6-foot frame. He’s only just begun to tap into the upside his frame carries. Gordon’s feel for shortstop only enhances his sky-high stock.

LHP Carter Holton (Benedictine Military) has been committed to Vandy since August of 2018 and has only been reaffirming his status as one of the top southpaws in the country since. He, too, shined at the NPI this summer and he was more or less the same kind of good earlier this month at our PBR Upperclass Fall World Series. There, Holton pummeled the strike zone with his lively stuff, a 87-90 mph fastball with a mid-70s slider and competitive changeup. He’s a thin 5-foot-11, 160 pounds, a look that lulls unassuming hitters to sleep when Holton dots the corners with his uber fast arm speed. He’s back up three spots on the state’s 2021 board, at No. 3 overall.

Campbell SS/RHP Michael Braswell, a South Carolina commit, has been a top-five-ranked prospect in the state’s 2021 class all year – nothing to change inside this update. We got a late look at him at the end of September at the second annual States Play tournament, facilitated by USA Baseball and the MLB. He’s a natural two-way type with upside on both sides of the ball, and it’s not yet certain which side his future is brightest on. This fall, we saw him star for Team Georgia at the aforementioned States Play event, and he’s also a natural up-the-middle defender. With that being said, Braswell has also been up to 88 mph in front of our staff and the lean, athletic frame that offers added projection that should help him gain even more ground on the mound.

Georgia Tech is adding two of the next three juniors to its 2021 recruiting board: C Harry Ford (North Cobb) and SS Kristian Campbell (Milton), ranked at No. 5 and 7, respectively. Ford was one of the top standouts at this year’s illustrious PBR Future Games event. He had his pick of offers exiting LakePoint and he opted for the Yellow Jackets. He’s a premium defender who wowed during the Future Games’ workout day, and it seems like his right-handed bat is catching up to his advanced catch-and-throw skills. As for Campbell, he actually joined Braswell as a member of Team Georgia at the States Play tourney. In the final series against Team Florida, Campbell tallied a double, underscoring the upside he brings with him inside the right-handed batter’s box, as he stands in at 6-foot-3, 183 pounds. He’s a high-level athlete who’s also ranked inside our national top-100, as a result.

Sandwiched in between Ford and Campbell on the top-10 is OF Christian Smith, from Grady, the third Vanderbilt commit on this board, thus far. With Smith, there’s not much in the form of updates – he’s still twitchy, fast, and sneaky strong as a left/left prospect. His commitment to Vandy seemed to ignite a Georgia haul for the Commodores, one that included the aforementioned Gordon, as well as Druw Jones, one of the state’s top-ranked 2022s.

Back-to-back uncommitted righties are next on our 2021 board, and it’s Logan McGuire (Allatoona) who lands in the No. 8 seat, four spots up in this update. We just had the pleasure of seeing McGuire a little over a week ago where he looked explosive. His highly projectable 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame helped him unleash fastballs in the 89-92 mph range which was the primary reason he was able to K all seven batters he opposed. A look that dominant helped McGuire secure the coveted title of the top uncommitted junior in the state.

Right after McGuire on the board is fellow right-hander Caleb Logerwell (Home School), who donned the Team Georgia jersey at the PBR Future Games back in August. Still on the market, Logerwell boosted his stock on the national board, as well as Georgia’s, when he showed off an advanced feel to spin at the Future Games, which complements a upper-80s fastball with sink. The aggressive sharp slider he wields has real out-pitch potential, too.

Finally, at No. 10, is Alcovy two-way prospect Ryan Spikes, committed to Tennessee. Spikes has the twitch and tools to play up the middle on the infield everyday, with the bat strength and barrel feel to continue progressing well as a position player, but his arm strength has helped him generate some promise on the mound. We’ve had Spikes up to 88 mph before, though we weren’t able to see much of him in 2019. Still, he had a strong offensive spring and summer against top-shelf competition, all while showing some added upside as a pitcher. We’re excited to get a closer look in spring 2020, however.
