5 foot 10, 180 pounds has a stocky+strong frame. Best hitter in country, responds well when facing high end arms. Hips touch & go off backside w/ perfect direction. Constant pressure on legs, head doesn’t move, loads w/ core & chest which allows the hands to stay incredibly loose & fast. Barrel layback perfect off back shoulder which produces a very short swing. Incredible barrel turnaround from launch position thru contact. Great body control. Do think he’d have potential in OF as well.
Area Code Games
SS Termarr Johnson (Mays HS, GA) was the best player at the event, and looked the part of a slam-dunk first-round pick. The hit tool is the best in the class thanks to electric hands and a thunderous barrel, but perhaps most importantly, his ability to consistently be on time with elite pitch recognition. Just 5-foot-8, 194-pounds, he is a giant in the box, commanding respect with the ability to leave the yard with each swing. A more pronounced load of the hands works deeper down and back with a larger leg kick giving way to plus bat speed thanks to the quickest of hands and innate ability to turn the barrel with authority. His compact strength shows up at its best when working to the back side gap as the barrel seems to stay in the zone forever while working uphill. An elite mover with supreme confidence, the aggressive use of the lower-half, and the torque created is eye-opening and astounding. There is flair to his game, and the bright lights and bigger stage only serve to boost the present tools. Defensively, the glove is a plus-tool with a quick arm/release from all angles. It can be easy to dismiss him as a future offensive second baseman because of the size, but the actions more than warrant a look at shortstop professionally, and he can more than play above average at any spot on the dirt as a future hybrid defender who can move around the diamond while keeping the bat firmly in the lineup. A statsheet filler, Johnson played in just three games but finished 4-for-7 with a double and three walks without striking out, and even his outs were hit hard. Closing out his summer on a high note, Johnson cemented himself as the best hitter in the class, and has the least amount of risk of any prospect in the country.
East Coast Pro
Johnson has a strong, compact and athletic frame and is blessed with great instincts. He has very good range with good first-step quickness. His feet consistently get into good position to field the ball and he has very good actions as well. The arm is strong with a quick release and he throws well from all angles. He has an excellent approach from the left side, turning in quality at-bats. He has good balance with the ability to fight balls off until he gets his pitch. He tracks the ball well and keeps the barrel in the zone with consistent hard contact and power potential.
A top-5 ranked prospect in the country, 5-foot-9, 165-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder, highly athletic, broad shoulders with advanced strength throughout frame, especially in his lower half. Mature beyond his age in the box, open setup with weight loaded on his back-side, hands load back smoothly and drop, short stride to a balanced position. Explosive lower half and hands through contact, short to the zone with quick hand speed, swings with easy effort and in an aggressive manner, level barrel path, drives the ball around the entire field, good hand-eye coordination, is able to lace pitches where they are hit. Puts pressure on the defense with his speed, always looking for the extra bag, easy strider.
Stands 5-foot-9, 145-pounds with twitchy-athleticism throughout, and some natural strength present. Singled in his first at-bat and later drove a ball high and deep to the back side gap. Large, pronounced leg kick works in sync with fluent, downward hands, and the barrel whips through the zone with some strength to all fields. Impressive prospect in the 2022 class.
It took all of one throw in the outfield while warming up for 2022 Termarr Johnson (Mays HS, GA) to stand out. His quick, whippy arm and flashy glove skills immediately catch the eye, even though he is only 5-foot-8, 140-pounds. His energy on the diamond is relentless, and he plays with a confidence that is unmatched and unparalleled even amongst players two years his senior. A left-handed hitter, Johnson utilizes a bigger leg kick to trigger his hands down and back before his quick hands and aggressive hips whip the barrel through the zone on a level plane with a higher finish. He smashed a double to the opposite field off the fence on the third day after posting quality at-bats throughout with a plethora of walks. Johnson’s energy and athleticism make it hard to look away when he’s performing, and he already looks like one of the premier prospects in the 2022 class.
Young middle infielder jumped out for his all-around tool package, including special defense and speed. Short, athletic frame w/ high-waist, some present lower half strength. Twitchy w/ projection. Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, very slightly crouched stance into leg kick and proper load. Generates bat speed through the zone w/ proper path. Advanced hand-eye coordination. Projectable pull power as frame matures. Plus runner ran a 4.28 and 4.15 down the line from the left side. Defensively, features special actions now, soft hands, plays through the ball well w/ first step quickness to both directions and easy arm strength.
