6/13/17: 6-foot-1, 190 pound catcher showcased a strong arm behind the dish and on the mound. Throws topped at 82 from the crouch, producing pop times between 1.94-2.02. Quick feet, smooth transfer. Forward lean while receiving. Shoulders and feet get squared. On the mound, Fitzpatrick maintains a strong, loose arm action. Raw movements, creates an inward turn while loading. Stride leg lands squared, gets firm. Life on the fastball sitting 84-85, touching 86. Been up to 87 this past spring. Breaking ball sat 69-72 with downer shape. Good angle on fastball and breaking ball. Offensively, he has an athletic setup with smooth load. Leg kick, hands load back. Quick barrel turn. Short follow through. Created loud contact on several swings. Exit velocity topped at 90. High energy player.
2017 Spring Scout Blog: Two way athlete took the mound for the opening round of the 4A sectional. Stands 6-foot-1 190 pounds with a strong upper body and some athleticism. Simple delivery with easy effort and good acceleration from the lower half. Complete finish at times, but will stop the follow through on some pitches. Average tempo. Fastball velocity saw gains since we saw him in the summer. Was a solid 86-87 in the first few innings with some sink action before settling in at 82-83 in the 4th. Breaking ball was 72-74 throughout flashing some sharpness. Could be a very good pitch if the action was more consistent. All pitches were commanded well. Continued development will lend itself to good projectability on the mound.
2/25/17: Stocky, 6-foot-1, 190 pound catcher has quick feet and clean transfer behind the plate. Arm action is short, quick. Tendency to lean, dive forward as he receives. Pop times ranged between 2.00-2.08 with throws topping at 79. Receiving skills are average, sometimes creating too much movement. In the box, Fitzpatrick has fast bat speed with ability to drive ball gap to gap. Top exit velocity of 90mph. Short stride, hands load back. Ran a 7.57 60yd dash.
12/3/16: Physical frame at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds. Produced a showcase best 2.04 pop time, sitting in the 2.04-2.08 range. Possesses arm strength with carry on his throws at 79 from the crouch. Stance is relaxed, Defensively at 3B showcased average hands with a clean exchange. Footwork is flat, plays through the baseball. Short, ¾ arm action across the field at 82. Offensively, the RHH hits from an open, crouch type setup. Hands start and stay low producing an uphill swing path. Bat speed is quick and shows strength. High exit velocity of 88. On the mound pitches from a clean, high ¾ arm action with above average arm speed. Inward turn, smooth rhythm in the delivery. Fastball is heavy, often left up in the zone at 81-83. Breaking ball is in the developmental stage at 60-64; lacks identity. Tendency to slow his arm down on the changeup. CH sat 74-77 flashing arm side run and kept in the zone.
6/21/16: The 5 foot 11 175 pound catcher ran a 7.61 60 yd dash. Has a long arm action with above average footwork. Throws had some life and topped at 80mph. Pop times ranged between 2.1-2.15. At the plate, he hits from a tall open stance. Tendency to dive after the leg kick. Bat speed is above average. Exit velocity topped at 85.
6/9/15: 5-foot-10, 165 pounder was 67 mph from the crouch and produced pop times of 2.10-2.20. Tendency to come way around the ball on his throws to 2B. Possesses a good arm action, but does drop his arm slot down too much showing more of a side arm action. At the plate starts from an open setup. Loads back, hands drop. Long stride with average bat speed. Uphill path, pull-side hitter. Recorded a high exit velo of 74 mph.
