True sophomore. A top returner for the Vols staff, the southpaw had one of the highest K/9 rates on the team last season at 15.19, striking out 36 in 21.1 innings. From an over-the-top-slot, Pillsbury cruised with his fastball at 87-88 mph, playing with carry and at the top of the zone. His curveball profiles well of his fastball, playing with big 12/6 action and depth at 72-74 mph, 2700-2800 RPM. His final offering was a fading changeup at 78-80 mph, thrown with fastball arm-speed.
Freshman. 6-foot-2, 200-pounds with evenly distributed weight. From an over-the-top slot, the southpaw showed a knack for spinning the breaking ball, reaching up to 3,054 RPM with an average spin rate of 2,913 RPM, 75-77 mph with sharp downer action. His fastball cruised at 88-89 throughout his ‘pen, playing with some life through the zone and a max IVB of 18.2. His final offering was a changeup at 78-80 mph that reached up to 17” of horizontal movement with developing feel.
