2017 Spring Scout Blog:  Southern Indiana commit.  The 6-foot-3, 175 pound pitcher has a quick, repeatable delivery with loose arm action.  Good rhythm, maintains balance and direction throughout delivery.  Easy effort.  Sat 84-85, touching 86 in his final 3 innings of work.  Good feel for his breaking ball at 68-72 with up and down action with lots of depth.  Some were thrown with more slurve action, both drawing swing and misses.  Change-up is thrown with a stiff wrist, stays flat at times.  Works ahead, consistently putting hitters in bad counts.  Struck out 10 in a complete game, 5 hit, 2 run performance.  

10/9/16:  The 6-foot-3 180 pound outfielder showcased gap-to-gap power offensively with fast bat speed.  Welch has a long stride with above average use of the lower half.  Path is level with extension.  On the mound, the right-handed pitcher sat 84-86 with command at the knees.  Breaking ball has 10/4 shape and FB arm speed.  Change-up has fade with a slowed arm action.  Delivery is smooth with level shoulders and some effort.  Welch ran a 7.16 laser timed 60.

8/21/16:  The RHP showcased a fastball that sat 84-85 with slight run.  Presents good command to arm side.  Breaking ball sat 70-72 with some 10/4 break.  Will need to develop this as he matures.  Delivery is clean with good rhythm.

6/25/15: The 6-foot-3 175 pound outfielder ran a 7.12 60 yard dash.  He hits from a balanced setup and back load. Stride is short and bat speed is above average.  Line drive approach.  Defensively, he showcased average hands and fluid footwork. Throws were accurate with some carry.  Outfield velocity was 83mph.

2/22/15: 6-foot-3, 175 pound sophomore possesses a lanky frame.  From the OF was 82 mph from a high ¾ slot.  Footwork was choppy and fielded the ball deep.  Ran a 7.12-60.  At the plate possesses a bat wrap during the load.  Coils the front side, and closes himself off after the stride.  Long path to the ball, line drive hitter. Possesses some bat speed.  Recorded a high exit velo of 82 mph.   

PITCHING: 6-foot-3, 175 pound right-hander pitches from a clean, high ¾ arm action with above average arm speed.  Smooth rhythm in the delivery with a good line to the plate.  Finishes upright.  Fastball was straight at 80-81.  Breaking ball sat 68-69 with late action.  Changeup was 70-73

7/29/14: 6 foot 3 inches, 170 pounds, 7.05/60, Athletic and lanky player with average hands, good feet and a solid ball transfer, arm works easy, throws 80 mph from right field. Hits in a balanced stance with a short stride, lower body produces a fast bat. On the mound his fastball was 79-83 with hard downhill sink, curveball was 66-71 with late, sharp movement. He throws both pitches for strikes and could follow a curveball with a fastball in the strike zone.
