Jackson Harris, a Baylor recruit, was another catcher who looked the part of a pro follow. It is a pro-style frame at 6-foot-2+ and 200-pounds with explosive strength. Harris whips the barrel through with well-above average bat speed for a 102+ mph peak exit, along with turning in a 6.95 60 and firing it 84 from the crouch.
Harris won the day, regardless of class, and it began in batting practice. The 6-foot-1, 200 pound left-handed hitter blasted majestic pull-side homers, mixed with gap-to-gap seeds, posting the furthest max distance (377 feet) of the day to go along with the days' best average exit velocity (94.2 mph avg EV), amongst all participants. His 99.5 mph peak exit was also the best of the day amongst rising juniors and his picture-esque left-handed stroke should draw early interest on August 1st. The game is well-rounded - an above average receiver who also showed off an 83 mph arm from the crouch - yet another event best amongst all participants.
Harris returned after the fall with a more physical-looking, 6-foot-2, 190 pound frame that look the part of a high-end backstop w run-producer traits. He showed more control with the lower half in this look with his usual whippy left-handed swing offering more impact now with exits at 97-plus. His arm has now elevated into a promising tool, 83 from the crouch, & I need to get early evals on this and the receiving abilities this spring. Harris has a chance to really blossom prior to Aug. 1 with high-end traits & a frame that continues to develop.
Harris is a left-handed bat that our staff is very high on, holding a valuable profile as a left-handed hitting catcher. The bat is the carrying tool at the moment, and he uses a toe-tap stride to control his forward move before landing in an ideal hitting position at heel strike. There is easy flick in the swing, and Harris shows above average bat strength with an exit velocity that peaked at 93.7 mph. The 6-foot, 170 pounder has a mechanically sound swing, with controlled effort, and the swing is geared toward line drive contact to optimize accuracy. An above average defender, Harris showed solid receiving skills with above average arm strength (75 mph from the crouch) and pops that ranged from 2.04 - 2.09.
