I really like the upside in this projectable, 6-foot-4, 185 pound backstop from Evansville. He put together a solid round of batting practice with a handsy, upward stroke that is starting to polish and produced 95-plus exits while averaging 90 mph on balls in play. I think there is big power potential here but need to get more at-bats on him as he shows just average bat-to-ball in my looks & at this event. The arm plays with strength and carry at 81 mph and is his best present tool. Brown will be catching Matthew Fisher this spring - so I'll get plenty of at-bats on Brown while evaluating him catching a premier arm. If projections come to full fruition & more strength is added Brown has a chance to boom prior to Aug. 1.

Brown is an upside backstop hailing from Evansville that we are excited about. An athletic, projectable, 6-foot-3, 165 pound multi-sport athlete with wiry strength - Brown showed improvements with the bat, reaching a peak exit velocity of 92.1 mph with 80% of his batted balls coming off the sweet spot. A high sweet spot percentage speaks to the barrel accuracy, and his overall impact will easily improve as he adds more mass to his ultra-projectable frame. Brown works behind the baseball with a controlled lower half and the swing works uphill. The path + frame + accuracy makes it easy to project him as a future-power bat. Brown's best tool at the moment is his arm strength, showing the best arm from the crouch of any '27 at the event (78 mph) and his pop times ranged from 2.03 - 2.08.

10/22/23

Hit: RHH. Sets up in a tall, athletic stance. Rhythmic hand load with smaller stride. Loose swing plane, works short to the baseball. Hands are quick, flashes the ability to leverage. Should mature into more bat strength, big potential for a '27

Arm: RH. C-77 mph. Loose, quick arm from an over-the-top slot.
Defense: 2.01-2.18 pop times. Receiving skills are very solid for the class, shows athleticism in the receiving position. Quicker feet on throws to 2B with clean exchange.
ATH: 7.28 runner in the 60.
