5/1/2019 Spring Scout Blog: Torrance is an uncommitted raw athlete that has started to show multiple tools over the last year and a half. Some upper body strength on an athletic frame. A 6.8 runner, Torrance's best tool is quickness and speed which he uses in the field and on the bases. Rangy outfielder. Uses a strong, accurate arm that topped out at 88 this winter. Offensively has developed into a more consistent contributor with increased power numbers and a much better looking swing from load to launch. Ball now gets lift which has translated into extra bases this season. Stride foot does get long at time which causes some timing issues and the ability to get beat by good fastballs. Should see continued jumps in development and production and should be considered a high follow in the 2020 outfield class.
2/16/2019: Luke Torrance, OF, Franklin HS, 2020, 6 foot 1, 175 pounds, ran 6.89, threw 88 mph from the outfield, and had an exit velocity of 91 mph. Hits from tall set up on right side, uses controlled leg lift to get to launch. Shows twitch and bat speed from launch to work through the ball and stay on balance throughout swing. Barrel path is down to flat through zone producing flat ball flight. Defensively shows raw footwork and tremendous arm speed. Luke is a good spring/summer follow.
2/24/2018: 6-foot, 170 pound outfielder has athletic movements in the box. Quick barrel turn. Long, uphill path to contact. Raw movements. Line drive approach. High exit velocity of 87. Defensively, he has an above average arm with throws topped 85. Fluid, quick footwork. Clean exchange. Plays through the baseball. Ran a 6.86 60 yard dash.
