Highly-athletic right-hander that worked 86-87.5 mph on a well-controlled fastball. Spun a 75-77 mph breaking ball that played with sharp bite at times and sweeper shape, looks the part of a swing-and-miss offering. Was able to go to all quadrants and subtract with a 79-82 changeup that played with arm-side sink. 6-foot, 170 pound frame still has room for projection. The athleticsm, arm speed, and feel for three pitches establishes a safe floor and allows for starters' upside.

+ Gooch is one of the big reasons Greencastle continues to elevate in our 2A polls week-by-week. He is amongst the 2A leaders in batting average (.578) to this point, undoubtedly one of the state's hottest hitters, and he went 13-for-24 (.542) during last week's games. He also scored (10) runs from the Tiger Cubs' leadoff spot, collected (5) RBI, hit (3) 2B and a 3B, and swiped (10) bases. He earned a win over Indian Creek in his start, tossing 6 2/3 and striking out (7).

Gooch is a really interesting junior, ultra-athletic within a 6-foot, 170 pound frame. He sat 86-88 with athleticism present in a simple delivery. The arm is quick and he spun an abv avg slider for the age at 72-75 (2326 avg) that played with sweep. There was feel to kill spin (1401) on a fading 75-77 change but he slows a touch on it. In total, the athlete is what I like here - he is just coming off basketball so I expect this to be the basement of his velos for his this year, especially considering he was up to 90 last fall. He worked out as a position player prior, slinging 92 from short and 95 from the outfield, while also turning in a burner 30 yard split at 3.73, equivalent to around a 6.6-6.7 range in the 60. Gooch has a chance to polish further which adds to the upside, and he is one of the better uncommitted right-handers that Indiana's junior class has to offer.
