CLASS OF 2026

+ I saw Tate in a 6-inning stint versus North Central this past week. Toeing the rubber at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds this spring, the body comp continues to clean up and the broad-shouldered frame brings a more muscular look. He lifts to a tall inward turn before an aggressive uncoil lands with a shorter stride, causing occasional misses up with the fastball. The arm action has cleaned up in the same fashion as the body and he is keeping the ball moving better on the backside of the delivery. His best pitch on the night was a late-fading, 81-83 CH that he abused LHHs with and showed tons of feel for. He flipped over a 73-77 SLV at will, though I thought the pitch showed better action last fall when he threw it a bit firmer. In total, it was a positive look. He has feel for three pitches that he can get swings-and-misses with, and his development is trending in the right direction.

Alabama Commit. What a day on Tuesday for the 6’4 200 Crimson Tide recruit who smoked the ball all week. In his first at bat he deposited a breaking ball over the left field wall. In his second game of the day, he absolutely destroyed a fastball deep to right field that hit high off the wall and left the bat at 97.3 exit velocity. Troxell has a huge frame with immense power to all parts of the field. Loves to let that ball get deep and use his strong hands to send it to the outfield or even over the wall. Will be a great player at the next level and for years to come.

My first look at Tate in 2024 was a good one, and he seems to have made nice strides in his overall development after an offseason of work. A durable, 6-foot-4, 220 pounder, Troxell appears to have leaned up a bit compared to looks last season and his movements within his delivery are cleaner, as well. Troxell came out working 87-89 early in his outing, settling at 86-88 for the entirety of his five-inning start. The Alabama recruit turned to an 11/5 shaped, 73-76 mph curveball that he leaned on as he went through the order for the second time, and showed an upper-70s slider that he was able to get chase with. As the outing went on, Troxell used more-and-more of his sinking changeup, a pitch that he has command of, that worked at 78-81. Troxell got the win in this look, working 5 IP w/ 0 ER, striking out 7. The command + frame, to go along with present above-average stuff, allows for future-starter projections.

Body: 6-3, 200-pounds. Physically advanced build
Hit: RHH. Tall setup with rhythm. Controlled toe tap type stride w/ quiet hands throughout the load. Big bat speed for a '26. Uphill swing plane - will hit for power with combination of raw strength, bat speed, and swing plane.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 81.2 mph. 284' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-89 mph.Moderate arm action from a H 3/4 slot - some of the best pure arm strength in the '26 class.
Defense: Moves well laterally for his size. Some fluidity in the feet - good timing in the footwork. Hands are soft and work out front.
Run: 7.49 runner in the 60.

Tate Troxell, Guerin Catholic, 2026, IN

Position: RHP/3B

Body: 6-foot-3, 205-pound physical frame.

Hit: (RHH) Solid. Starts in a tall stance with a compact load, then uses a toe tap stride. Present bat speed. High finish, uphill swing. Aggressive approach.

Power: 87.4 mph exit velocity, average 75.2 mph.

Defense: (IF) Sure hands, fluid footwork, natural exchange. Capable.

Arm: 83 mph infield velocity. Quick arm action, high ¾ slot.

Speed: 7.80 (60-yard).
