Body: 5-10, 174-pounds. Athletic frame, strong lower half.
Delivery: Stretch delivery. Controlled tempo. Comes set with a closed front side. Tall balance point, driving downhill with his lower half. Lands inline with home.
Arm Action: LH. Long, whippy arm action. OTT arm slot, good extension out front.
FB: T83, 80-83 mph. Straight action on a downward plane. Consistent strikes. T2157, 2083 average rpm.
CB: 66-67 mph. Slurve action w/ occasional depth. Developing release. T2119, 1993 average rpm.
LHP Kane Ast (Douglass, 2027) emerged as a name to follow in Kansas’ 2027 class. At 5-foot-10, 174-pounds, Ast showed plenty of upside on the mound in a frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. The lefty featured a fastball that jumped out of his hand and played with natural carry (avg. 17” of vertical break) at 80-82 mph, topping out at 82.7 mph on the day. With that he paired a sharp 65-67 mph curveball with depth and developing feel for the zone.
