Maryland Top Prospect Games West
Body: 6’2’’, 180 pounds. Strong, well-put together frame with a good lower half.
Hit: LHH. Balanced, upright stance with loose hands starting on the shoulder; utilized a lift and replace stride on time with a barrel tip at the top of the load, the swing entered the hitting zone through a flat path with increased bat control at impact. Got on plane early with the baseball flashing connection in both the lower and upper halves. Featured plenty of burst on pitches up above the belt, sending one as far as 350 feet per Trackman Baseball. Quality hitter overall with a mature approach yielding hard contact all over the field.
Power: 95 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Home run juice to pull and occasionally backside LCF as well. Really stays connected with above-average bat speed to boot.
Arm: LH. OF - 87 mph. Loose, whippy actions and stays rhythmic in the release from H3/4. Accurate on the plate.
Defense: Projects to play at any two of the three outfield positions with a smooth operation during defensive evaluations. Got the chest downhill with a quick first step, working banana routes around and through the baseball. Efficient reads and made decisions quickly in stride.
Run: 7.31 60-yard time.
Delivery: Repeatable rocker step with pace into the leg lift showing slight hip coil, raced down the mound with separation into footstrike allowing the arm to speed through release. Front side blocks off properly and the chest works down through the finish violently to create extra life. Solid mechanics that should allow for him to hold velocity throughout games.
Arm Action: LH. High ¾, athletic slot with enough length, but worked consistently on time.
FB: T86 mph, 83-86 mph. Average spin rate of 2038 rpm per TrackMan. Downhill, easy effort and pounded the arm side of the plate with occasional dive to it.
CB: 72-73 mph. Average spin rate of 2311 rpm per TrackMan. 1/7 shape and feel for the strike zone, gets on top and spins it.
SL: 76-77 mph. Average spin rate of 2074 rpm per TrackMan. Developing confidence and less bite than the CB, but quality presentation with similar arm speed.
CH: 78-79 mph. Shows well as a fourth pitch, playing off the FB about 6-7 ticks which creates deception with slight fade.
Maryland Preseason Preview
Body: 6’2’’, 170 pounds. Strong, athletic, projectable frame.
Hit: LHH. Hits from a tall, balanced, square stance at the plate. Smooth back load with really nice hand separation and a short, controlled stride. Stays behind the ball really well, with an uphill swing path. Quick hands and fast bat speed through contact, creating solid extension through and past contact. Keeps his hands inside the ball well with quick, whippy type barrel action. Ball comes off the bat well with a strong two-handed finish. Squared up balls consistently during his BP rounds with a solid middle to pull side line drive approach.
Power: 94 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Power to the pull side is present with more projected as his body continues to fill out.
Arm: LH. OF - 86 mph. Throws with longer arm action from an over the top slot.
Defense: Plays through the ball well with quick, fluid actions and soft hands, fielding the ball on the glove side. Smooth, clean transfers with a slight crow hop into strong, accurate throws that showed carry from the outfield.
Run: 4.31 Home to first base time.
Delivery: Controlled side-step wind-up and high leg kick into a tall, compact balance position. Smooth, long stride down the mound with strong lower half drive. Works downhill and lands slightly closed to the plate with great extension and a full athletic follow through and finish. Creates quick arm speed through release.
Arm Action: LH. Loose full arm circle from a high three-quarter slot with light effort.
FB: T84 mph, 81-83 mph. Showed late life and carry through the zone with an average spin rate of 1990 rpm per TrackMan.
CB: 70-72 mph. Showed more 12/6 shape and some 1/7 at times with an average spin rate of 2018 rpm per TrackMan.
CH: 71-73 mph. Showed fade.
