1/4/14 - MacKay is a wiry, athletic 5-foot-10, 140-pound left-hand hitting outfielder. During the outfield workout he demonstrated soft hands and clean exchanges.  He threw with short arm action from a high ¾ slot.  His top throw from the outfield was clocked at 75 mph.  At the plate he has a balanced set-up.  He strides slightly closed and keeps his hands in tight close to his body at the start and as he strides.  MacKay has good rhythm starting with a forward weight shift then backwards before striding.  His swing is short with some violence to it as he worked mostly middle-oppo.  His exit velocity best was 83 mph.
7/10/13: In the outfield, the 5-foot-10, 140-pound MacKay, over the course of numerous PBR events, continues to show ability finding the ball off the bat and moving fluidly to the ball with athletic actions. He gets in good position to throw, with his momentum toward his target. At the plate, the left handed hitting MacKay has a line drive approach, showing ability to hit the ball to the opposite field. His swing takes a long, uphill path while showing good control of his bat. With a little more use of his lower half, MacKay should start driving the ball with more authority

6/19/13:  MacKay is an undersized 5-foot-10, 140-pound two way player who continues to show progress and has the tools to be a consistent player as he continues to mature physically. In the outfield, MacKay gets to the ball quickly with fluid footwork and a clean exchange. His arm is loose and he plays through the ball delivering a top throw of 76-mph. During game play, MacKay showed some arm strength and accuracy from right field, holding a base runner at third. At the plate, the left handed hitting MacKay has good rhythm and takes a short, level path to the ball; showing the ability to hit some line drives. As his frame continues to fill out, he should start driving the ball with some more authority. On the mound, MacKay comes from a ¾ arm slot with a short, quick arm action and max effort. His fastball was thrown in the 73-74 mph range down in the zone with slight cut action. He also threw a 58-60 mph breaking ball with gradual 10-to-4 break and a 58-60 mph change up that shows some cut down in the zone.

12/19/12:  MacKay is an undersized but strong 5-foot-8, 130-pound left handed pitcher and outfielder.

On the mound, the left handed MacKay comes from a high ¾ arm slot with loose arm action. His fastball has slight arm side run, topping at 70 mph. His change up looked to be his best pitch, staying down in the zone with late glove side movement. MacKay also threw a 1-to-7 breaking ball with near fastball arm speed. With a bit more rhythm in his delivery, MacKay should be able to increase his velocity over the next few years.
