Average frame with athleticism present at 5-foot-9, 150 pounds. Swung the bat well from the right side. Starts athletic and balanced using waggle in the bat head to create rhythm. Is set and consistent with his launch position. Short stride, down early, and linear action with the back side work to create average bat speed. Level through the zone there is a slight pull tendency. Exit velocity peaked at 81 mph. Average hands and fluid feet on the infield work to play through the ball. Clean exchanges work with a short arm action, showing accuracy across the diamond on throws measuring 75 mph. Ran a 7.34 sixty.
11.06.16
Solid fundamental base from the 5-foot-9, 150 pound infielder. Works to play through most balls, but did get caught on his heels at times. Hands showed softness, using clean exchanges and a long arm action into a high-3/4 slot. Some accuracy on the throws that registered 68mph across the infield. Right handed hitter uses a knee trigger to load and stride, from an athletic, tall base. Occasionally long, worked to stay gap-to-gap. Barrel awareness will improve as the swing works to get the triggers out of the way and limit the rushed feeling. Ran his sixty in 7.48. From the mound Rice has a simple repeat-able delivery with an average leg kick that works down and out to a slightly closed line. Hands pump up and down with the leg working to a front side glove point. The arm works with a long arm swing to a high-3/4 slot with some shoulder restriction. Fastball worked up to 80, sitting 74-78. The change-up is advanced with solid hand speed and arm side action. Ranging 67-69, the change of pace pounded the zone. The curveball lacks action at times, wanting to work with gradual downer shape. Sitting 65-69 it was erratic. At 5-foot-9, 150 pounds, an average build that looks to still be young.
