Strong, athletic build. Long arm action to a loose over-the-top slot. Fastball up to 92, sitting 89-90 in his first two innings. Fastball held 87-89 into the 6th. Erratic command early, settled into a 50/50 strike thrower, getting chase on his fastball when ahead in the count. Curveball has a short 11/5 tilt, getting freeze over swing and miss. Better feel for curveball as the game wore on. Spin ranged 75-77
8/13/19: Brzykcy impressed out of the Falmouth pen, striking out 14 batters in ten innings of work while allowing just four hits and a walk along the way (1.80 ERA/0.50 WHIP to go with a .114 BAA). The power armed righty makes use of all of his 6-foot-2, 225 pound frame, driving his strong lower half and working a powerful core to produce a hard and straight 92-to-96 mph heater (2400 rpm spin rate) and a hard 12-to-6 breaker (2700-2850 rpm) at 81-to-83 mph. He stays on line through his delivery with a steady tempo and has no trouble pounding the inner half and elevating the fastball while both tunneling his curve and burying it as a chase pitch when ahead. It’s purely a relief profile, but one that could be developed to handle late-inning action and high leverage situations. Brzykcy’s strong Cape showing should secure him high on follow lists entering next spring – particularly if he’s able to maintain the gains he’s seen in his control and execution (Brzykcy walked a batter per inning this past spring – 23 in 23.1 innings of relief work).
