8/18/19

Uncommitted 6-foot 180. Williams has a medium to large frame, with a strong lower half. Williams posted one of the better all-around performances of the day. Defensively, he made all the plays, including a nice over the shoulder catch in the game. He took a mature round of batting practice with consistent hard contact in a mostly pulls side approach, but on occasion displayed an ability to drive the ball the other way. He recorded three hits and used the whole field in the game. He showed a capable arm with a high level of accuracy. Williams has tremendous makeup and playability that will provide an ability to stay at 3B and be a middle of the order bat.  There is not a lot of flash to his game, more of a blue collar ‘get it done” type and surprised by his availability, but he won’t be available long.

Really like what this young man has done with himself over this past spring.  He has transformed his body to become a viable left-handed hitting third baseman with capable infield actions and present pull side power. His future ability to get into his lower half during the swing could provide power to all fields. His batting practice displayed consistent quality contact. Williams has a strong desire to play at the highest level and willing to put the time and work in. Look for him to continue to progress and hold down the hot corner with a ceiling has a middle of the order bat.

2/10/19 -Durable, 6-foot 190, Williams is strong with a developed lower half.  He has soft, capable hands with the actions for an everyday third baseman.  Look for him to develop a wider range of arms slots moving forward to add to his arsenal.  In the box, Williams starts open and strides closed he stays tall with a subtle hand load, riding his front leg for timing.  The swing is strength oriented with natural loft producing noticeable pull side power.  There is the potential for greater carry if he can get into his legs more, but he has a feel for his power and knows how to get to it.  Some may want to see him move to first base or behind the dish down the road, but his actions and feel deserve a long hard look at third base.  Williams has the ability to be a middle of the lineup guy at the next level.
