8/7/18: St. John Fisher (Campus Series)

Lean and lanky, slower pace to his delivery, strides even towards home-plate, short stride length. Arm-swing is short and fast, releases from a ¾ slot. Fastball sits 71-72 with run to the arm-side, CB 58-59 with loose 11/5 shape. 3B – Wide and active to the ball, quick transfer and funnel, ¾ sot. Offensively – Narrow, upright stance with slight knee bend. Hands stay tight to the body and work inside of the ball. Hard line drive contact to his pull-side. Balanced leg lift to create momentum. Exit velo of 70 mph.

July 2018

Starter threw from a ¾ arm slot, mostly utilizing a two-seam fastball that hovered around 70. Also had a loopy curve that hung around 56, he found it to be effective late on by bouncing it in the dirt for swings and misses. Struggled overall due to constant misses of his fastball outside to righties and in on lefties.

Western NY All-Star Games (September 24, 2017)

Clements is a 5-foot-10, 165-pound third basemen and right-handed pitcher. Offensively – Clements begins with a mostly upright stance, feet are should width apart, and hands relaxed just below his back shoulder. He has a slight loading mechanism, short foot stride and decent hip rotation to get his bat through the hitting zone. Clements has upward tilt in his swing, stays level through the hitting zone, and finishes mid-high on his follow through. His exit velocity is 78 MPH off the tee. Defensively -  Clements shows a good approach as a corner infielder, moves his feet well towards the ball, and is active with his glove. Has a smooth transition from fielding to throwing to his intended target, active lateral movement, and makes accurate throws to his target. Clements has an arm velocity of 68 MPH from the hot corner. Pitching – Clements begins windup over the middle of the rubber and has smooth rocker step and pivot to his balance point. He raises knee to 90 degree then drops and drives towards the catcher. Clements has a long take away and releases at a high ¾ arm slot. Tends to fall over towards the first base side but will improve with more leg drive. His fastball is 73-74 MPH and his curveball has tight breaking action at 56-58 MPH.

Campus Series- St. Bonaventure (July 11, 2017)

Clements stands in at 5-foot-10, 165-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.71 home to first. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet just outside shoulder width. Shows a vertical body holding the bat above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quick knee raise in to stride forward while his hands move back slightly into his hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing his hips and using the whole-body frame in the process of the swing. Shows quick hands into the hitting zone with a level barrel path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated good plate coverage with line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side. Clean, fluid swing with potential. Recorded an exit velocity of 79 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork towards the baseball. Fielding mechanics are clean with a quick funnel into the chest and appropriate transition into the throwing position. Has aggressive footwork towards intended target and made accurate throws. Moves well left/right and in on the run. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 71 MPH. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a simple side step into a high leg raise above the hip crease. Breaks down hell with good separation into a high ¾ release point. Could engage lower half into the delivery with a better follow through to get in a good fielding position. Will come with more strength and development. Fastball range was 73-76 MPH and peaked at 76 MPH showing arm side run. Curveball was 54-57 MPH with 12/6 action. Overall a young talented 2021 grad prospect to keep an eye on at future events.
