Well built, large frame, 6-foot-2, 225-pounds. Open glove out in front, moves around bag well for size, high 3/4 arm slot 70 mph arm-strength. In the box he's wide and relaxed, power in the swing path, above average bat speed, finishes with upward tilt, smooth load and balanced finish.
Preseason - East (February 22, 2018)
Full frame with above average athleticism for his size at 6-foot-2 250 pounds. He ran a 5.01 home-to-1B: Offensively- Even stance; pre-loaded to the back leg with a short up-down stride for timing. Stays behind the ball with a big time lower half effort. Lean back finish with an elevated one-hand; weight transfer neutralized some what but does not effect his results that much. Drives the ball left center; exit velocity peaked at personal best 87 MPH. Defensively- Soft hands; can pivot in either direction to start the double play. Stays active on his feet, more then adequate defender. Arm strength on throws to 3B was 72 MPH.
ENY All-Star Games (September 17, 2017)
Rhoden is a 6-foot- 1 250 pound 1B, who has a solid body frame especially his lower half. Offensively - Rhoden starts with his feet slightly outside his shoulders, and has an athletic stance with his knees bent and toes angled together. His hands start just below shoulder height with good elbow bend. He gains momentum with his stride and high leg kick, but stays balanced through contact. He has a timing mechanism with his load and attacks the ball out in front. Donovan shows aggressive back foot/hip rotation with some leveling prior to contact and keeps his swing through the zone. His hands slightly above his shoulders with a one arm take away after contact. He shows power potential and line drive ability with an exit velocity of 85 MPH. Defensively – Rhoden is a solid body at the 1B position. He has a balanced approach with his feet prior to receiving the ball, and keeps his knees bent in a athletic position. He receives the ball in front and has decent footwork for his size showing he can get back to the bag when needed. Arm strength is 66 MPH and will improve with off-season training.
