Physical: Large and physical 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame with plenty of strength throughout the movements in all phases of the game. 7.89 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH. Balanced, compact stance with the hands working with slight rhythm at the shoulder in the setup. Utilized a repeatable leg hang stride to initiate high level bat speed through a flat path with lift after contact. Generated natural backspin to the pull-side during batting practice with hard impact at the front of the plate; the lower half worked with advanced power into a stiff front side with present weight shift allowing for eye popping measurables across the board. Recorded multiple home runs during batting practice with legitimate jump off of the barrel and should project as a middle of the order bat at the next level. Registered a max of 101 mph bat-exit velocity per Trackman Baseball and a top batted ball distance of 376 feet. Showcased a 50% hard hit percentage as well as a 42% line drive percentage … Two numbers that suggest feel for the barrel in his large frame.

Defensively: The primary first baseman featured a moderately low center of gravity displaying a soft glove hand working out in front coupled with adequate feel around the bag during defensive evaluations. The arm played accurately across the diamond out of a high ¾ slot with carry. 1B - 83 mph

Pitching: RHP - Forward/side angled rocker step with a high coiled leg lift at the top of the stack creating some pull to the first base side on the release out of a high ¾ slot with downhill action. The fastball appeared at 81-84 mph with some heaviness at the knees and a top of 2588 RPM spin per Trackman Baseball; kept increased life as it approached the plate. Mixed in a tight breaking, 11/5 shaped, 76-78 mph SL with late horizontal and an average of 2265 spin.

A big physical frame at 6-foot-4,220 pounds. Ran a 8.18 in the 60 yard dash. Offensively- The right handed hitter stands in the box in a slightly open stance. Displayed loose hands and a short stride towards the pitcher before attacking the hitting zone. Has a short direct path to the baseball with a slight lift at the point of contact. Gets good use of the lower half. Top exit velocity was 91 MPH. Defensively- At first base, Gets in a low wide stance before fielding the baseball. Takes his time to gather himself to make throws from a mid ¾ arm slot. Top throwing velocity was 77 MPH. Pitching- The RHP displayed a repeatable balanced delivery. Works with a high knee lift and has a slight shoulder tilt before driving downhill from a balanced back side. FB has some arm side run and peaked at 80 MPH. FB ranged from 78-79 MPH. CB ranged from 66-69 MPH. The 2021 graduate has tons of upside and is a must follow.

Big body that is still developing. Proportional build with a wide frame. Actions have a deliberate pace and are simple. Arm action is short and compact. Stays in his legs well and should be able to make significant jumps as he adds strength.

Pride Workout (February 10, 2018)

Hodnett stands in at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds with a thick, strong, athletic frame.  He ran a 7.93 60 yard dash and a 4.74 home to 1b. Offensively-  Big, powerful looking right handed hitter starts with his feet slightly wider than shoulder width with knees pointed inward.  Balanced stance with front leg lift when pitch approaches and hands high near the ear. Tends to wrap his bat around his neck which makes the swing path a little longer but provides some power with an upper path swing.  Exit velocity of 83 MPH. When he can correct his hands to be shorter to the baseball, look for a jump in bat speed and power.   Defensively-  Big target at first base, moves well to the baseball and gets in a solid fielding position.  Footwork is adequate for a big man around the bag and arm angle produced consistent throws to second and third base.  Pitching-  Sets up in the wind up with his feet shoulder width apart and splitting the rubber in half.  Short rocker step allows him to get parallel to the rubber as he lifts his leg. Very quick gather and go movement forces him to rush to the plate.  He would benefit from using a complete leg lift to his balance point to allow his hands to break and allow him a consistent stride length to the plate.  When he gets good extension his ball runs to the arm side producing a max FB velocity of 76 MPH, sitting 74-76 MPH. Still more in the tank with some additional strength and mechanical refinement.

Hodnett ran a 8.05-60.  Arm strength measured at 72-MPH from the infield.  Pitching- Fastball topped out at 77-MPH, a slight increase from February.  Changeup sitting at 69-MPH with a curve at 70-MPH.
