June 25-27, 2018 (NYS Games)
Peak FB: 83-MPH
Range 78-81-MPH
CB/SL range: 62-65-MPH & 61-65-MPH
Pounds the strike zone, mid 3/4 arm slot with a ASR FB. Loose arm with late snap.
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
Athletic 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-hander. Pitching - uses height to get downward plane on fastball at 79-80 MPH, shows late arm-side run with sinking action, able to change eye levels, works both sides of plate, curveball-slider mix handcuffs batters, maintains release point and motion on 2-to-7 at 65-67 MPH, biting slider falls off the shelf, positive hip tilt at the balance point.

Preseason All-State (February 20, 2017)

Weppner stands 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with quality size from the mound. Pitching- He uses simple mechanics throughout his delivery, high knee lift, alignment with shoulders is on target. Arm-action is back and circle is brief and short, releases from a mid-3/4 slot with arm-side run. Fastball sat 76-77 MPH (have seen up to 81), curveball has swing and miss sweeping action. Overall Weppner is an absolute must follow this summer and will be on display at the NYS Games.
NY All-Star Games (September 17, 2016)
Weppner has encouraging size from the mound standing 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with easy size projection as he fills-out. From the mound he stands with a wide-base, using a quick paced delivery, above the belt knee-lift, uses a delayed pause/hitch with his lead leg before he drives forward. Arm-action is straight back (slight hand movement towards SS), slight choppiness as the hand raises even with the head, releases the ball from a low-3/4 slot creating arm-side run with depth. Fastball peaks at 81 MPH currently, sits 78-80 with plenty of late action. Curveball shows 11/5 shape with gradual action at 65-60 mph. Increasing arm-strength and hand-speed on curveball will allow for more hard-action.
Western NY Prospect Preview (July 5, 2016)
Weppner stands 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, a RHP/3B. He ran a 4.6 home to 1B. Offensively- Gunar steps in with a very open stance, with his feet just outside shoulder width apart. He also begins with a lean of his upper body towards the pitcher. Sway like motion into his timing; a toe tap as his leg lifts into his stride. Fighting his lower half at times created some length in his swing. Line drive/flyball results. Exit velocity of 72 MPH. Pitching- Gunar begins with a wide base and his glove and ball hand separated down by his waist. He then takes his side step before finally bringing his hands together. Gunar comes tall before he moves to his leg kick, then proceeds to bring his leg back down before make any forward movement towards the plate. After the leg kick, there is a slight pause or hitch, then he delivers with a short, side arm motion. Gunar clocked a FB of 77-79 MPH.. He favored his FB, but did show a curveball (lateral slider action) coming in at 61-63 MPH. Longer arm action may create additional whip from his low slot, improving velocity and movement.
