6/25/19

A projectable strong build at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds. Ran a 7.75 in the 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box in a tall stance. Has a short simple load. Short stride towards the pitcher. Shows quick hand through the hitting zone. Flat bat path through the hitting zone. Showed hard consistent contact to the middle and pull side of the field.  Gets good use of the lower half. Stays balanced throughout his swing. Top exit velocity was 82 MPH. Defensively- Presents a big target for the pitcher.  Sits back in a slightly upright position. Shows active footwork behind the plate. Has a quick exchange, smooth transfer and a quick release from a high ¾ arm slot. Top throwing velocity was 76 MPH. Pop time ranged from 2.10-2.20.

June 25-27, 2018 (NYS Games)

60 Yard Dash:
8.1
Exit Velocity:
83
Positional Arm:
74
Pop-Time: 2.25-2.34

Stands 5-foot-11, 180-pounds and is well built with room for even more growth as he matures. Soft hands recieving, short arm action in the back, 74 mph arm-strength with a 2.25 best pop-time to second. In the box there's a wide setup, shorter to the ball, uphill path, consistent contact, 83 mph bat speed off a tee and expect that number to keep climbing.

Preseason-West (February 19, 2018)

Ray stands 5-foot-11, 180-pounds, from a thicker solidly built frame, suited for the demands of the catching position. Offensively- At the plate he uses a wide set up, back load for timing with a small stride as his hands power forward on a slight incline Barrel path.  Aggressive and fluid throughout the entire swing with a full finished, 78 mph exit velocity off a tee but expect that number to climb as we see him more this summer. Defensively- uses a wide stance to receive the ball with an open glove, has sound mechanical techniques behind the dish, throws from a shorter, arm action, 74 mph arm strength with a 2.15 pop time to the bag. An interesting prospect behind the dish to keep a close eye on as he continues to physically mature as a player.

Preseason All-State (February 20, 2017)

Ray checks in at 5-foot-10 170 pounds with a strong lower half. Offensively- Sets up slightly open with a semi-flat barrel angle over back shoulder. Picks angle up on load as he stride back to even; explodes through the zone with a two-handed cross body finish. Middle to pull side gap results; flyballs and line drives. Peak exit velocity was 74 MPH. Additional lower half effort will help clear the path for a more consistent swing path. Defensively- Pop times ranged between 2.15-2.22 with a respectable 74 MPH arm strength. Improvements within transfer/footwork should help shave times down.
