Comunale stands with great size at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds on the mound. Pitching- Uses a slower pace to his delivery and is very sound mechanically. Arm-action is back and clean, long stride with a firm front side, releases from a high 3/4 slot getting on-top of the ball. Fastball sits 80-82 MPH with downward depth with consistent accuracy. Curveball sits in the upper 60's with 11/6 shape, changeup has fastball hand-speed in the low-mid 70's (75 peak). Overall, this is an arm that will come in and compete at the next-level with three pitches. Command has been very consistent, there's more velocity in the arm, and mechanics are smooth and repeatable.
Comunale, a 2018 right-handed hitting infielder/RHP, stands at a solid 6-foot-2 weighing in at 175 pounds, ran a 4.4 from home to first. Offensively- Starts with an upright slightly open lower half with the weight centered while the hands are directly above the back shoulder and barrel of the bat parallel to the ground. Initiates the swing with a slight shift of weight to the back side while the lead foot is subtly elevated striding forward and hands get straight back, remaining inside the back shoulder, and barrel of the bat elevates to 45 degrees with a slight wrap towards the pitcher. Showed an ability to drive the ball with some authority between the pull side to opposite field gap, keeping the hands compact staying thru the hitting zone for a good amount of time. Recorded an exit velocity of 81 MPH on the day, a jump of 4 MPH from last event attended.. Defensively- Uses a pre-pitch step and hop to get the body moving. Uses short choppy steps to create hops with the body moving towards the target. Transfer the ball from the center of the body and efficiently keeping the lower and upper in sync pretty well. Throws showed good carry and life registering an arm velocity of 74 MPH, an increase of 4 MPH from last event. Pitching- Starts from the center of the rubber, toes angled slightly to the arm side, with both hands starting chin height. Drop steps to the first base side, pivot remaining center rubber, while the hands drop waist high and then elevated back to and above the chin and knee getting well above the waist during the gathered phase of the delivery. Sticks the landing with the lead toe slightly closed, back leg triple extended and lead arm solid to the front side. The fastball, from an over the top arm angle, showed some life sitting between 77-79 and topping out at 80 MPH. Showed arm side run and sink with the 2-seam FB, repeating the delivery consistently. The changeup, showing quality arm side fade as well as good differential from the fastball (-7 MPH) topped out at 73 MPH. Featured two curveballs, get me over as well as a get out pitch. Both CB’s, showed tight rotation, one with more of a biting action and 11-o-5 shape to go along with a get me over curve, that had less velocity and more of a 12-to-6 shape. The curveball topped out at a top velocity of 65 MPH. Showed good feel and presence on the mound, as well as displaying quality command of all pitches.
Nick stands an athletic yet slender 6-foot-1, 160-pounds. Pitching- From the windup he starts with his hands high. Bring his hands to his center during his side step. Good rhythm to a high knee lift. Counter rotates nicely at his balance point. Leads with his hip. Land leg swings out a bit making him fall off to the glove side slightly. Once he's able get his nose over his front foot, you should see his velocity jump up. Impressive 77 mph fastball, with -10mph differential on his change-up. Offensively- At the plate, Nick stays balanced with his stance a little more than shoulder width apart. Starts slightly open and loads with the pitch. Lets the ball get deep in the zone. Short but quick swing shows signs of power. 77 mph exit velocity. A slight back shoulder dip keeps him from getting full extension, and creates a slight lean out over the plate. Stays inside the ball, High finish. Defensively- In the field he moves well from side to side and shows an above average glove. Keeps his hands out front, and keeps a wide base when receiving the ball. Long loose 3/4 arm slot from the field. Attacks slow rollers well, and moves through the baseball. Was 70 MPH across the diamond.
