Preseason - Long Island (February 23, 2018)
Robert is a 5’9” 180 lb OF/LHP that ran a 4.09 home-to-first. Offensively: He stands in an upright position with his hands close to his head, back elbow up and bat angled towards the pitcher. As the pitcher delivers, he gets into hitting position with a very small stride. He could generate more power using his lower half and recorded an exit velocity of 77 MPH, finishing with one hand on the bat. Defensively: He showed his athleticism, charged the ball very well and showed off his strong arm, hitting 87 MPH from the outfield. Pitching: Uses a unique delivery, using a high leg kick and then pausing prior to beginning his descent reminiscent of Clayton Kershaw. Gets good use of his lower half, throws from a high ¾ arm slot and gets great extension. Sat 83-84 MPH with the fastball.
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
Sturdy 5-foot-8, 165-pound build ran a 6.9/60. Offensively - effective load, quick hands, appropriate pre-pitch movement for an exit velocity of 81 MPH; comfortable driving the ball to the middle third of the field. Defensively - compact approach, builds momentum with agile footwork for outfield velocity of 85 MPH. Pitching - uses slight hesitation, hides ball well, fastball between 78-80 MPH that touches 83 MPH induces weak contact, tight shape on curveball 72-73 MPH, gets downward action on change-up at 73-74 MPH.
NY All-Star Games (September 17, 2016)
Sight yet athletic build at 5-foot-8, 160 pounds. The OF/LHP ran an improved 6.88 60. Offensively- Starts in a spread/even stance with a quick snap back of the hands for a load and a short stride. Swing path is short and hands lead ahead of legs, creating some resistance. Athletic enough to pull hands through the zone with a short finish. Improved lower half will allow for more drive. Line drive, line-to-line results with an exit velocity of 82 MPH. Leadoff, table setter type mold. Defensively- Laid back, upright setup in the OF. Easy approach to the ball, catching and funneling back into the body with a minimal crow hop. Accelerates through a 3/4 arm slot with a quick recoil finish. Suitable arm strength at 82 MPH that could easily be improved with some adjustments to aggression and crow hop. CF/LF projection. Pitching- On the mound Ray starts arm side with a short side step to mid chest balance point. Features a slight hesitation after breaking hands and dropping lead leg before regaining momentum. Arm action is long, clean and from a low 3/4 slot. FB sat 78-79 MPH, popping a few at 81 MPH. Sweeping breaking ball from left-to-right with sharp action and depth at 66-68 MPH; can spot and expand. Potential dual prospect at the next level at the right program.
Eastern NY Prospect Preview (August 2, 2016)
Ray stands 5-foot-8, 160-pounds with a smaller, but strong build. Offensively- Starts with his hands high and loose, wide stance with little-to-no stride on the pitch. Hands get to the ball quick and compact, barrel stays level through contact with a shorter finish. Fluid swing with some gap power projection. His exit velocity was 83 mphDefensively- projects currently as a CF using his above average speed (6.90 60), coupled with his smooth fluid actions roaming the outfield. Arm-action is long and clean with accuracy and carry to the targets (82 mph). Pitching- uses a slower paced delivery, breaking hands over the rubber before driving forward. Slight drop on his back side, proper alignment with his front side, arm action is back and long with no restrictions. Throws from a high-3/4 slot, fastball sits 77-79 mph with some arm-side run. Shows accuracy and feel for his curveball sitting 65-66 with 2/7 shape. Change up shows gradual arm side fade. Overall, Ray shows grit and toughness on the field. Displays confidence on the field, and shows signs of next-level athleticism.
New England Top Prospect Games (Sept. 27, 2015)
Defensively- As an outfielder, threw 74 MPH from right field with good accuracy and effort. Showed good footwork and range out there. Got off the ball well as an outfielder. Offensively-The swing is loose with effort in it, 75 MPH tee exit velocity. Hits out of a wide base stance and high hands. Wraps the bat on the backside but shows a clean path. Needs to get stronger to aid the swing. Good athlete as he ran well, 4.46Pitching- On the mound, showed a very good feel for his delivery and pitching. Fastball touched 78 MPH, out of ¾ arm slot and a quick arm. Slurvy breaking ball was a plus pitch at 69, late action with depth.  Changeup is a work in progress. The delivery is clean and has a slight pause in his leg lift at the bottom of it. Showed a good feel for holding runners and controlling his body. Like him on the mound, as the arm is quick and he has feel.
