A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Slider
Hammer+
A hammer breaking ball drops vertically with velocity through the zone, or 12-to-6 movement. Hammer+ of 100 is MLB average.
Slider
Sweep+
A sweeping breaking ball moves horizontally with velocity through the zone. Sweep+ of 100 is MLB average.
The highest Edge Score within the given year. Edge Score is a comprehensive score that takes the core-six visual skills into account, providing an assessment of an athlete’s overall visual ability.
Physical: High-waisted, lengthy 6-foot-3, 180lb frame with some projection. 7.73 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Wide, slightly bent in the knees attack with the hands showing some rhythm pre-swing above the shoulder. Utilized a heel raise to initiate through a flat, direct path into the hitting zone, lifting after impact. Featured a mostly pull-side approach en route to a 55% fly ball rate, working to get leveraged at the front of the plate during his batting practice round. Got to extension consistently, posting a T87 mph bat-exit velocity and batted ball distances up to near 330 feet (via Trackman). Produced quick hands at the plate, handling the inner half with occasional twitch and ability to stay short using tight turns.
Defensively: The third baseman operated with long strides, ranging in either direction at a medium posture. The glove hand worked loose and softly inside/outside the left foot and could play through the baseball using a clean exchange at the waist. Accurate, H ¾ slot on the front side releasing with length to the target (79 mph arm).
Pitching: RHP - Started off the far left side of the rubber with gradual pace to the delivery; got to a higher leg lift and worked down the slope after the stack with tempo into footstrike. Got over the front side creating some downhill tilt at H ¾ slot. The FB entered the zone heavy at 80-82 mph for strikes to the knees. Mixed a solid 68-71 mph SL that held two-plane shape at times out of the hand and countered with a low-spin CH (1330rpms, 60% zone rate) that was commanded for strikes in any count.
2/19/21
Physical: 6’3 180 RHP/3B ran a 7.75 laser timed 60-yard dash. Long and lanky frame has room to add more strength with time.
Offensively: He starts in a shoulder width stance with his front foot slightly open. He uses fluid movements in his load to begin his timing mechanism. His barrel works in behind the ball and stays flat through contact. Swing is repeatable and works smoothly in and out of the zone.
Defensively: He keeps his movements when approaching the ball simple and easy. His glove stays in a good position in front of his body as he receives and funnels into the center of his body. His arm works from multiple arm angles depending on the play being made.
