Colin Ames: RHP/3B, (2022) Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, OH. Gulf Coast State College Commit, 6-foot-2, 235-pound. Solid on the mound, showed quick arm speed, also used a high ¾ arm angle and a loose arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses some effort. He has downhill shoulders with a athletic balance point. Lands soft with balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 87-89 mph. Has slight running action. (Max spin 2123; Avg 1994). His 11/5 curveball (69-72) showed some sweeping action. (Max spin 1882; Avg 1772). He shows slight action on his changeup (80-81).

Tossed two lights out innings to close out his outing. 6-foot-3, physical presence with mid80s velo (T87) and impressive feel for the secondary. Breaking ball was tight and changeup showed quality fade. Solid showing for the Ames, with the ability to carry velocity making him a possible starter candidate at the next level.

Slow-tempo type pitcher and uses easy effort. Showed an athletic balance point. a clean finish. Curveball (70-71 mph), changeup (78-80 mph), slider (75-77 mph).Produced a fastball that came in at 86-88 mph.

Delivery Notes: Ames works through a ¾ arm slot and shows good arm speed with a clean arm action.
Fastball: The fastball was 84-86 mph and was mostly true through the zone with some cut at times.
Curveball: His breaking ball was 70-71 mph with a somewhat slurvey shape and action.
Changeup: The changeup was 78-79 mph.
Pitchability: Good feel for his three pitch mix. Fastball showed good life through the zone and secondary pitches were thrown with fastball arm speed.

Body Type: 6-foot-2, 205-pound athletic frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Smooth arm action with an explosive lower half. Lands slightly open. Ideal mechanics to improve and develop on.
Fastball: 81-84mph. Average spin rate around 2,000 rpm’s with a high 90% efficiency. Ability to locate on both sides of the plate.
Curveball: 64-66mph. 11/5 movement with some drop to it. Ability to locate on both sides of plate.
Changeup: 71-75mph. Arm side drop. Good offering keeping batters off balance.
Pitchability: High pitchability, locates 3 pitches on both corners of the plate. 

Very promising prospect in the 2022 class. Two-way potential with a higher ceiling on the bump. Physical presence out there with a live arm that has obvious strength to it. Fastball will sit in that 79-82 mph range, showing signs of a high velo guy down the road. Breaking ball is sharp, generating regular swing/miss through outing. At the plate he has some thump in his bat from the right side and can play third base at an above average clip.

A two-way prospect that stood out on the bump. The right-hander has a very sturdy frame with above average athleticism. Arm action is long back and clean through a high-¾ slot. Generates above average strength and speed to arm. Ball comes out well with fastball showing late life at 77-80 mph. Primary secondary offering was his 11/5 shaped breaking ball. Spins it well giving it above average depth and action. Also flashed a playable changeup a few times. One of the better right-handers we’ve come across in the class so far.

A righty swinger that starts in a taller setup. Loading sequence is fluid, and he creates solid energy with his lower half. Barrel maintains fluidity through loading sequence into launch. Bath is level with impressive strength through contact. A middle of the lineup type guy with impressive pop. Look for more to come as he fills out his projectable frame. At third base he showed smooth, athletic actions. Fields the ball nicely, out in front of his body. Tends to play from heels at times. Ball skills are developing.  On the mound he showed the ability to attack batters and throw minimal balls. He uses a high leg kick to generate his power and throws from an easy ¾ arm slot. Has a slower delivery with little effort. His FB jumps out of his hand and gets to the batter quick. His CB has sharp late break on a 11/5 plane. Also has good feel for his CH that looks like his FB but drops out of the zone.

The top arm in attendance. Very projectable, athletic frame. The right-hander has a slower paced tempo to a delivery that requires some effort. Uses an easy left lift, staying tall at balance point. Arm works well through a near over the top slot. Arm speed is very impressive for his age. Ball jumps out of his hand, with his fastball sitting 75-77 mph. Spins an 11/5 shaped breaking ball that was the best one we saw of the event. Puts good spin on the pitch that has late, sharp action at 58-62 mph. Also showed solid feel for a 65-66 mph changeup.
