Cus Wood: LHP/1B, (2023) Elder, OH. 6-foot-1, 207-pound. On the mound, had a quick arm action and a high ¾ arm angle with good arm speed. Feel stretch only type pitcher who shows easy effort. Changeup (73-75 mph), slider (68-72 mph). Sat with his fastball at 77-78 mph. Shows running action. (Max spin 1912; Avg 1837). He showed a 1/7 curveball (65-67). (Max spin 1997; Avg 1938).
2/16/19
2/16/19 Pitching
Body Type: 6-foot 165-pound prospect.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a deceptive crossfire action to his delivery. Hides the ball well, but does ‘cut’ the ball on all his pitches.
Fastball: 64-66 mph fastball showed some depth and cut.
Breaking Ball: 59-60 mph breaking ball showed minimal action, more like a slow cutter than a slider.
Changeup: 60-61 mph changeup showed a little depth and cut.
Pitchability: Average feel and command for this three pitch mix.
Role: Wood shows some athletic potential, but needs some skill work. He cuts around the ball quite a bit on his fastball which hurts his velocity. His secondary offerings have essentially the same actions as his fastball just at a lower velocity. Would fit best in the bullpen.
Body Type: 6-foot, 165 pounds. Taller build with room to fill in.
Swing Mechanics: Has a taller, upright stance in the box. Produces a shorter loading process followed by a level bat path.
Hit: Nice contact overall as barrel action progressed as his round went on. Power: 71 mph exit velocity. More power shown to the opposite field.
Offensive Projection: TBD for now. Run: 4.67 seconds home to first. Field: At first base he showed average glovework with his hands and overall fielding ability. Footwork is playable for now with quickness improving as he grows. As an outfielder he fielded it well with the glove and showed average footwork for his age working angles to the ball. Can improve efficiency by attacking the ball with greater intent too and take that momentum into his throws. Throw: 61 mph across the diamond. 67 mph from the outfield. Defensive Projection: TBD for now as he has plenty of time for developing over the next few years.
