Gavin Roper: RHP/OF, (2024) Wayne, OH. 5-foot-9, 185-pound. Solid on the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle and a loose arm action while showing quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses easy effort. Showed consistent balance point and downhill shoulders. Lands soft with balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 79-82 mph. Had slight running action. (Max spin 2051; Avg 1966). His 11/5 curveball (68-72) showed gradual action. (Max spin 2174; Avg 2157). He has fading action on his changeup (71-72).

Started in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth controlled load, then used a toe tap. Bat speed is quick and has a rotational swing plane. He found multiple barrels through his rounds. Line drive approach. Solid on the mound, showed good arm speed, he had a ¾ arm angle with a compact arm action. Feel type pitcher and uses some effort. Curveball (66-70 mph), changeup (67-68 mph).Threw his fastball 73-76 mph.

5-foot-9, 185-pound. Raw during batting practice, Roper had a max exit velocity of 79 mph. Begins in a balanced stance with a quick tight load, then uses a toe tap. Bat speed is average and uses a flat an inside-out swing plane. Line drive approach. Recorded a time of 7.83 in the 60-yard dash. Solid on the mound, used an compact arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Feel type pitcher and uses some effort. Changeup (68-71 mph), slider (66-68 mph).Sat with his fastball at 74-76 mph; had slight running action and command low in the zone. Threw a 11/5 curveball (68-69) with late action.
Hit: Right-handed hitter that starts in an upright setup. Uses a slight back lod to hands during double tpa timing trigger. Takes a slightly downhill path to contact with balanced strength/speed to stroke. WOrked middle of the field in BP with low line drive flight. Ball comes off well when squared.

Scouting Notes: A freshman to keep an eye on out of Wayne HS. Delivery comes together well, requiring regular effort. Compact, clean arm that comes through a high-3/4 slot. Shows physical signs of more gas in the tank.
Fastball: Top offering so far. Should see easy velo addition to a pitch that is already heavy. Quality sink when working arm side.
Breaking Ball: Breaking ball has tight, late action with a balanced combination of horizontal/vertical action. Slider has a similar look to curveball with a bit more depth.
Changeup: Also tossed a changeup that he has developing feel for.
Pitchability: In/out throughout the bullpen.
