2/11/18

The Toledo commit put together a solid performance in BP. A lefty bat with a compact, slightly downhill stroke. Does a nice job of maintaining balance throughout swing. A handsy hitter that can spray the ball to all fields. More strength than speed to his hands presently. Impressed with barrel feel/manipulation to stay inside the baseball and generate consistent backspin. Behind the dish he showed average to slightly above average catch and throw skills. Arm is accurate, projecting for more strength. Handled the arms well in bullpens, showing the ability to block and receive at an above average clip.

60-yard dash: 7.73

Pop Times: 1.98-2.10

Catcher Velocity: 72

Exit Velocity: 93

8/2/16
6-foot-2, 175-pound athletic, projectable frame. Ran a 4.5 from home to first. Top tool is his bat. The lefty has a very smooth swing and gets his barrel in the zone very early. His flat path and ability to get on plane early gives him a big margin for error in timing and allows him to consistently find the barrel. Strength is there and batspeed is above average. Ball comes off his bat well and he showed the ability to hit line drives to all fields in BP. Top exit velocity was 84 mph. Behind the plate he showed above average catch and throw skills. Throws were consistently on the bag with 72 mph arm strength. Pop times ranged from 2.0-2.13.

6/7/16
6-foot-1, 180-pound athletic, projectable frame. Starts in an open setup from the left side before his short stride forward. Has some stiffness to his hips in his swing. Generates most of his batspeed from his upper half as he is able to generate good whip through the zone. Worked well to his pull side in batting practice. Registered an exit velocity of 89 mph and ran a 7.35 60-yard dash. Behind the plate he has some quickness to his footwork and does a good job of getting in line to second base during his transfer. Did a nice job of handling his staff during game play. Adequate receiving and blocking skills. Pop times ranged from 2.03-2.08 and he threw with 70 mph arm strength to second base. Also worked out at first base where he showed athletic actions with confidence in his glove. Bat plays so his ability at first base is another way for him to stay in the lineup.

2/21/16
Mohnickey has a 6-foot-1, 185-pound build. He has an upright, left-handed stance. He loads back slightly onto his back leg and shows good weight transfer into his front side and keeps the barrel through the hitting zone with a slight uphill swing. His exit velocity was up to 89 mph and he ran the 60-yard dash in 7.41. Behind the plate, he has good footwork with a quick transfer. His pop times were 1.99-2.07 and he had a velocity of 69 mph down to second base.

2/15/16

6-foot-1, 185-pound athletic, projectable build. A left-handed swinger that starts in a tall balanced setup. Shows good rhythm while taking his hands back during his short stride forward. Taking a slightly downhill path to the ball he found the barrel often and reached a top exit velocity of 84 mph. A versatile defender that has the ability to play behind the plate or in the infield. Behind the plate he displayed efficient footwork with quickness to his transfer. Pop times ranged from 2.11-2.19, and he threw with 70 mph arm strength to second base. At first base he does a good job of creating throwing angles to second prior to fielding the ball. Moves of the bag well and has confidence in his glove. Threw across the infield with 73 mph arm strength. Ran a 4.43 from home to first.

9/12/15
6-foot-1, 185-pound athletic build. Left-handed hitter that stands tall in the box with leg kick to load. Slightly uphill swing with 82 mph exit velocity and ran 4.83 home to first. Over at first base he shows good footwork around the bag and decent range coming off. Throws from a high-3/4 slot with 70 mph arm strength across the diamond. Behind the plate he starts with a wide base and slightly turned. Good footwork and clean exchange with pop times ranging from 2.26-2.3 and 68 mph arm strength.
7/28/15
6-foot-1, 185-pound projectable frame. Left-handed hitter with a feel to hit. Stands tall in the batters box with fluid load and quick hands. Showed good power for his age especially to the pull side. Registered top exit velocity of 85 mph and was 4.54 home to first. Behind the plate he starts with a wide base and straight up. On his exchange he gets his feet in the right position. Decent transfer for his age and throws form a high-3/4 slot with 67 mph arm strength and pop times ranging from 2.18-2.25. Over at first base he shows good footwork around the bag with decent range and 67 mph arm strength across the diamond.
