2/12/17
6-foot-2, 185-pound frame. The Marshall commit is a two-way prospect out of Dublin Jerome HS. Wilson looked mechanically efficient as normal with clean arm action. Once again showed a very impressive 12/6 breaking ball that has swing and miss to it. Velocity was down as he sat 78-80 mph, but we have seen him sit in the mid 80s multiple times and up to 87 mph.  Looked much improved with his skill set as a position player. At the plate he brings both strength and bat speed to the table. Swing is compact while working on a slightly downhill path. Showed gap to gap pop, flashing power potential at times during batting practice. In the infield he uses fluid footwork and does a nice job creating angles to play through the baseball efficiently. Has enough arm to stay on the left side of the infield.

6/7/16
A two way prospect with a 6-foot-2, 175-pound strong, athletic frame. Brings well above average athleticism to the mound with a smooth delivery that requires minimal effort. Has clean arm action with above average armspeed and some looseness. Fastball came in anywhere from 83-86 mph and we have seen him up to 88 mph as recent as this spring. Has tight spin on his sharp 12/6 curveball that hitters were obviously having trouble picking up. Very good pitch. Also displayed a changeup with fastball armspeed at 77-78 mph. At the plate he generates efficient energy into contact through an aggressive stride. Keeps rhythm in his hands before firing the bat through the zone on a level path. Above average batspeed at this stage. Stays fluid throughout his swing. Showed the ability to drive the ball in the gaps in batting practice. Reached a top exit velocity of 87 mph and ran a 7.31 60-yard dash. Athletic actions in the infield with impressive 87 mph arm strength across the diamond. Fringy lateral mobility for the shortstop position. Profiles more as a third baseman at the next level.

1/31/16
6-foot-2, 175-pound athletic build. On the mound he shows a up tempo rhythm to his delivery. Throws with some effort. Shows good direction to the plate, landing on line at foot strike. Three pitch mix with the fastball sitting 82-84 mph. Curveball has sharp 12/6 break at 71-74 mph. Changeup was a little hard sitting at 78-79 mph. Sam also had an impressive performance as a position player and showed attributes of possibly being a two way prospect at the next level. At the plate he is able to stay fluid and athletic throughout his load and does a good job of creating energy forward into contact. Used his loose, quick hands to get the bat through the zone and produce an exit velocity of 86 mph. In the infield he displayed quick footwork and confidence in his glove. Did a good job of creating angles to maintain his momentum through fielding position into his throws which reached a top velocity of 84 mph across the infield. Ran a 4.25 from home to first.

8/9/15
Wilson worked three solid innings facing one batter over the minimum while striking out five. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-hander sat 81-83 out of a high 3/4 arm slot with a loose arm action and some hip coil to his delivery. Wilson also flashed a 71 mph curveball with sharp 11/5 break and a slider at 74 mph in his arsenal. His athletic frame and long levers indicate additional velocity spikes are likely moving forward.
6/30/15
6-foot-1, 170-pound thinner, athletic build, with projection to his body. From the infield he uses athletic footwork to approach ground balls, playing through the baseball. He fields with soft hands out in front of his body, bringing them into his body before he throws. He throws using a clean, short arm action coming from a ¾ slot using 80 mph velocity. Right-handed hitter starts from an open stance, getting himself squared back up to being even before he swings. He finishes his swing with a two-handed follow through, showing strength and the ability to use the whole field during his round of batting practice. He reached a top exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 4.59 out of the batter’s box to first base. On the mound he uses some effort to his delivery, landing in a straight line at foot strike. He throws with a clean arm action, using just above average arm speed coming from a ¾ slot. His fastball has some arm-side run to it at 80-83 mph. His curveball has good sharp, late breaking action to it between 71-73 mph with close to 12/6 tilt. He also threw a slider that was more at an 11/5 plane, with tighter break at 72-74 mph. He finished his game portion on the mound with five strikeouts.

2/7/15
6-foot-1, 165-pound athletic build. From the infield he shows soft hands and does a good job fielding the ball out in front of his body. Clean exchange with loose arm that he can throw from different slots with 79 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts open and gets to even. Starts with his bat on his shoulder with a long stride. Quick, short compact swing which produced line drives and 79 mph bat speed. Ran 4.5 home to first.

10/26/14
6-foot, 160-pound average build. From the infield he does a good job coming to get the baseball. Throws from a loose-¾ slot with 76 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts slightly open. Doesn’t use a load and his bat path gets in and out of the zone with a high finish. Registered top exit velocity of 79 mph and ran a 7.76 60-yard dash. On the mound he has a compact delivery and hides the ball well. Throws from a short-¾ slot with his fastball sitting 75-76 mph. Shows good depth on his 11/5 breaking ball at 65-67 mph and shows a good changeup at 70-71 with plus arm speed.

8/10/14
6 foot, 160 pound athletic frame. From the infield he shows good range with soft hands and pretty good exchange. Throws from a ¾ slot with top velocity of 75 mph across the diamond. Right handed hitter that starts open and gets to even.  Stands tall with a short compact swing with a top exit velocity of 78 mph and 4.8 home to first.
