A power arm who exploded this past fall, topping our fall Heat Sheet with a 99 mph bolt during a scout workout, Brock is a high octane hurler who ran his fastball up to 97 while flashing a 89 mph slider during his two-out appearance on Saturday against the Huskers.   The velocity comes with some effort, but he’s a quick-twitch athlete and stays balanced throughout his delivery. Commanding his arsenal has been a challenge since arriving on campus, but he appears better sequenced and is executing his pitches with more regularity this spring, performing to a stat line of 2.37 ERA, seven saves and 27 strikeouts in 19 IP.

Blessed with some of the best arm speed in the region and sitting atop the most recent Heat Sheet, Brock can light up the radar gun with a fastball that sits in the 97-to-98 mph range, capable of scraping triple digits. He’s able to generate significant arm side run with his two-seamer without sacrificing velocity, and he doesn’t shy away from challenging righthanders on the inner half of the plate. He’ll also show a biting high-80s slider with two-plane break in the 2500 rpm range, as well as a low 90s cutter that’s more horizontal. The double plus velocity comes with some effort, but he does an adequate job of staying balanced and in control throughout an athletic delivery.  Commanding his arsenal has been challenge since arriving in Columbus, but he appears to be executing his pitches with more regularity this fall. He’s positioned for high leverage innings for the Buckeyes, either in a fireman role or as a closer. If he’s able to harness his electric stuff more consistently this spring, he has Day One upside.

A very talented two-way prospect in the 2018 class. Likely the top uncommitted arm talent the state has to offer in the 2018 class. Long limbed kid with room to fill out. Works fast and has obvious confidence in his ability on the mound. Arm is loose and can be electric. Fastball jumps out of his hand at 84-88 mph, mostly sitting 87-88 mph (we saw him up to 93 mph this spring). Breaking ball was as impressive as any we saw at the event. The pitch is a true 12/6 curveball that drops off the table late at 75-77 mph. Very good spin on the pitch, making it hard for hitters to pick up. Also showed feel for his change-up that showed run and sink.  A right-handed hitter that starts in a a balanced setup. Loading sequence is fluid and creates energy. Swings with intent and showed solid natural tools. Ball comes off his bat well showing gap to gap pop in general, and flashing power potential.
Infield Velocity: 94
Exit Velocity: 94
