7/15/22

2022 MLB Draft League: Lean athletic build and is a dead red fastball hitter who looks to do damage on offering. Present plus bat speed has led to an average EV of 87 MPH with numerous balls hit over 100 MPH Peaking at 109. Struggles with off-speed and lacks a defensive home in the field

5/22/21

A large-framed shortstop, Dezenzo has power to all fields, particularly the opposite field gap. He’s aggressive at the plate with some swing/miss to his offensive profile (45 strikeouts vs 16 walks in 154 at-bats), but he did show the ability to shorten up and use all fields on Saturday, going 3-for-4 with singles to center, right-center and right field. With 19 XBH this season that includes six home runs, his power will likely continue to develop as he fills into his long 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame. He’s athletic for his size, but I don’t see him remaining at shortstop at the next level. A move to the hot corner is likely in his pro future where he will have plenty of arm, showing above average-to-plus during my recent look. He’s also an average to above runner and will likely have above average range at third base. His swing/miss rates are a likely detriment to his draft value. He will likely be considered early in Day Three, unless his signability bumps him to late Day Two. It was just a one game look, but he certainly has the athleticism and tools to justify being selected in this area.

2/11/18

Fresh off a strong performance at the Super 60, 2018 IF Zach Dezenzo (Marlington HS) once again looked unphased by the bright lights. The Ohio State commit took a professional BP staying inside himself with a low effort, fluid swing. He makes good use of his 6-foot-4 frame creating leverage through angles to lift the baseball without sacrificing natural tools. More of gap threat than he is to leave the yard presently but that should change as he fills out frame. Defensively, I wouldn't be shocked if he sticks at short at the college level with a move to third base likely down the road in pro ball.

2/12/17

A very projectable 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame. The Ohio State commit continues to show as much upside as any position player in the state. The 6-foot-3 shortstop has put on 15-20 pounds of solid weight since the summer and it showed during his batting practice round. Dezenzo drove ball after ball into the gap with authority, showing the ability to produce backspin consistently. The Marlington HS standout has a chance to be a staple in the middle of the Buckeye lineup once he gets here in the the Fall of 2019. In the infield he plays with confidence and flashed well above average glove skills. Showed off very impressive, 91 mph arm strength across the diamond.

6/6/16
6-foot-3, 180-pound athletic, projectable frame. A toolsy player that is starting to make a name for himself as one of the top prospects in the 2018 class. Took an impressive batting practice and drove balls to the gap with authority. Has a swing with fluid, well timed movements that include a bat tip and leg kick. Has all the tools to be a middle of lineup hitter at the next level. Registered an exit velocity of 92 mph and ran a 6.84 60-yard dash. Might be a tick to big to play middle. Has a 3B profile with good, quick hands and a big arm. He will need to improve footwork to stick at SS. Top velocity of 79 mph.

2/13/16
A very talented infielder with an athletic, projectable build at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds. At the plate the righty remains smooth and fluid throughout his load process using a small leg kick to gather his weight. During his controlled stride forward he uses a scap load with his upper half to remain balanced. Showed some power potential to his pull side and registered a top exit velocity of 86 mph. Impressed in the infield with athletic actions and a very quick transfer. Showed the ability to play low and remain athletic on the move. From a 3/4 slot he threw across the infield with 76 mph arm strength. Ran a 7.1 60-yard dash.

7/15/15

6-foot-3, 170-pound projectable frame. Right-handed hitter that starts open and gets to even. Leg kick to load with a good path and feel to hit at such a young age. Hammered two triples in the game with 79 mph exit velocity and ran a 4.57 home to first. In the infield he shows decent range and plays thru the ball well. Clean transfer with 76 mph arm strength across the diamond. On the mound the righty has a slow tempo delivery that is closed at foot strike. Throws from a high-3/4 slot with fastball sitting 79-82 mph with some down angle. Spins a breaking ball with 11/5 tilt at 68-71 mph. Showcases a hard changeup at 76-77 mph with good arm speed.
