5/9/18 - Strong built righty with wide, sloping shoulders and strength to his lower half. Body comparable to Matt Harvey, ex-Met. Had an easy first inning, retiring all three batters. Got ahead by locating fastball, then induced weak contact on off speed late in the count, throwing change to LHH, slider to RHH. In subsequent innings, the hitters made an adjustment and started to lay off the off speed stuff. Allowed five runs in the second inning, worked out of a jam in in the third after losing command of his 91-94 mph fastball. Almost worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth, got the ground ball that would have ended the inning, but an error by the third baseman extended the inning. The next pitch was deposited off the top of the centerfield wall for a bases clearing double. Never made pitch to make hitters uncomfortable on the inner half. Hitters recognized pitches out of the hand, taking aggressive swings with not much swing and miss. Rhythm pitcher who seemed out of sync. He had an over top arm slot with the arm dropping after takeaway. Seemed to me body would get out in front of arm at times making it hard to repeat release. Tough time controlling the running game. Baserunners had aggressive leads and jumps. Became more erratic to the plate changing tempo to hold runners. Kept his composure well and battle through some tough innings. Obviously, did not see his best day.
