The Lamar JC commit has an impressive 6-foot-8, 240-pound frame with strength throughout. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo and abbreviated delivery with his hands pumping over his head before using a high leg kick with a coil at the top and long stride down the mound. Arm action is long in the back with a stab behind his body and a wrist hook before coming through a high-¾ slot with arm speed. Fastball sits 84-86 mph with downhill tilt, almost all strikes. Splitter has depth to both the glove side and arm side, thrown at the bottom of the zone for strikes and as a chase pitch at 75-76 mph.
5-21-17 Physically advanced, Huffling towers at 6-foot-8, 215-pounds. On the mound, the left-hander pitches from a controlled delivery, reaching back towards third, locking his arm out, hooking his wrist, and bending at the waist before coming through a just above side arm slot. Fastball shows lots of run and some sink, 76-80 mph. Slider has 2/8 shape, flashes tight spin, 72-73 mph. Changeup has arm side run, 60-62 mph. Has some feel for the strike zone that will continue to develop. Offensively, starts from a front foot heavy, wide set-up from the right-side. Uses a high knee-knock leg kick for timing and arm-bar load. Swing path is flat with some bat speed. Used a middle to opposite field approach in BP, 83 mph exit velo. Shows deliberate actions at first base with average hands, 74 across the diamond with lots of run. Runs a 7.72 60.
10/29/17 A physically impressive 6-foot-8, 225-pound frame with strength throughout. On the mound, works from a smooth and controlled delivery with average effort. Arm action is full, getting high in the back early before coming through a 3/4 slot. Fastball flashes arm side run at 80-83 mph and bumps 84-85 whenever Huffling reaches back for more with some downhill tilt. Breaking ball shows 2/8 shape with gradual break, 69-70 mph. In his outing, Huffling seemed to show more command as he loosed up and attacked hitters with his best fastball. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a slightly front foot heavy set-up with the barrel tipped towards the pitcher and some rhythm in his hands. Uses a smooth load, with some arm bar and a short stride before launching quick and strong hands on a slightly uphill path with with bat speed and quality extension. In BP, shows a pull gap approach with consistent lift and strength, leaving the yard multiple times, one of the best rounds of the day. Exit velo of 90 mph. Runs a 7.53 60. Defensively, shows deliberate and clean actions around the bag, 78 mph to second base. In the game, earned two free bases and launched a towering home run over the left field wall and net.
