Lean, lanky 6-foot, 160-pound frame that projects to add strength in the coming years, particularly in the lower half. Intrigued our staff on both sides of the ball at the KCPI. Flat, rotational swing at the plate, uses levers to create whippy strength off the barrel. Hopped on the mound and reached an 86 mph high from a loose, easy high ¾ slot. Spun a slurvey-type breaking ball that got multiple swings-and-misses. An upside two-way follow in Oklahoma that’s set to start his sophomore year.
Positional Profile: C/1B/RHP
Body: 6-foot, 160-pounds. Stout and athletic frame with present strength.
Hit: RHH. Starts with a wide base and athletic posture. Slight lean back in the posture to start the swing. Utilizes a short leg kick stride with short weight stack onto the back leg. Lower half pushes linearly through the zone into a firm front leg. Has some strength at contact and shows power potential.
Defense: Behind the plate showed accurate throws to the bag with strong carry at times with pop times ranging between 2.08-2.22 at 75 mph. Clean transfers out of the glove with feet working directly to the bag. Receives the ball with a traditional set up and feel for pitch framing. Shows proper blocking posture with quick feet and hips. In the infield attacks the ball with shorter strides and prefers to let the ball come to him. Fields the ball slightly deep into the body with developing glove action and a firm glove. Registered 82 mph from across the diamond.
Run: 5.21 runner home to first.
Delivery: Short and simple rocking footwork around the rubber working to an easy pivot foot. Sinks into the lower half well with strong push off the rubber. Rhythmic and athletic delivery and repeats the mechanics well. Works from the middle of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound into a bent plant leg. Maintains balance and athleticism well throughout the delivery.
Arm: Action: High ¾ arm slot with a clean and loose arm action.
Fastball: 82-85 mph. Strong riding life through the zone with some slight arm side run.
Slider: 67-71 mph. Heavy sweeping shape with tight spin and feel for landing in the zone.
Changeup: 71-72 mph. Kills the spin with slight arm side fading action with slightly slower hand speed.
Body: 6-foot, 150-pound lean and projectable frame with room for added strength and size in the future.
Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a slightly open stance and athletic posture. Hands get set at shoulder height with a relaxed back elbow. Lower half works linearly through the zone to a firm front leg. Weight transfer is slightly drifty with hands working linearly with good routes to the ball and good extension. Head stays behind the ball at contact with developing feel for balance throughout the swing. Hands work quickly through the zone with good overall bat speed and showing current strenth at contact.
Power: 79 mph exit velocity off the tee and 87 mph exit velocity in BP.
Arm: RH. INF- 74 mph. High ¾ arm slot with short and whippy arm action.
Defense: In the infield does a good job of working underneath the ball with low fielding position. Fields the ball with a firm glove and developing feel for glove action out in front. Shows good footwork around the bag.
Run: 5.37 runner to first base.
