Dutton was a standout performer and almost every time something caught your eye it was Dutton. Standing 6-foot-2, 165-pounds, Dutton has a very projectable body with loose limbs and athleticism. Everything was smooth with minimal effort. While taking grounders, he displayed a quick first step and lateral quickness. The glove actions need a little work but the ability is there. The ball came out quickly with a whip like action. Some throws sailed because of the arm slot but there was strength behind it with projectable arm strength. At the plate, he swung from both sides with the right side looking a little more polished. The swing was smooth with good hip rotation and follow through. From the left side, the swing was a little longer but still got on time effectively. Right now power is more gap-to-gap but with added strength some power will emerge. On the mound it was raw but with promise. The fastball sat 78-80 touching 81 with some natural cut from a ¾ slot. There is deception in the delivery and combined with the arm slot, he would be very tough to face. The breaking ball is developing but he snapped off a few good ones when the arm slot was consistent. Dutton has tools and will be one to watch this season, as there is lots of room for growth.
3.31.18
A young and toolsy two-way player, Dutton stands at 6’0’’ with room to add size to his 145-pound frame. Runs a 4.17-second home-to-first. Takes aggressive hacks from the right side. Bat stays flat through the zone, swing needs some tweaks, but Dutton shows some quick hands through the zone. Aggressive approach out in the field when approaching balls. Arm works cleanly in the infield with some zip on his throws at 81 mph across the infield. On the mound, Dutton sits 76-77 mph on the fastball with some running action. Shows ability to spin his curveball and gets good downward depth on the pitch at 63-66 mph. Changeup sits 68-69 mph and looks like his best secondary pitch and drops off the table late. Overall, an intriguing young prospect with some tools, will be an interesting follow moving forward and with added strength, Dutton will only be able to get better.
