3/18/16 6-foot-3, 215-pounder pitched out of a high three-quarter slot with loose arm. FB sat 84-88 early and seemed to get on the hitters (lots of oppo foul balls), before settling in at 83-85. Battled through seven innings (4 H, 3 BB, 6 K) without his normally solid 11/5 CB, which consistently backed up on him this outing. Broke out a solid mid-70s change-up with some fade a couple times in the 5th inning, but predominantly pitched with his FB. Limited lower half incorporation really evident in stretch, where he was 1.1 to the plate with a slide step, but FB was 81-82 with a similar velocity dip from CB. Comes set with slight forward lean and goes straight to the plate from there. Lower half usage and clean-up of some timing issues (hands and leg lift aren't quite synced and he separates late) indicate there's more to come from this multi-sport athlete who comes to the diamond straight off the hardwood.
2/14/16 6-foot-3, 215-pound righty sat 83-86 with a free and easy delivery out of a high 3/4 arm slot. His fastball has late life, he creates above average tilt from his upright delivery and additional velocity is likely moving forward. Mayock's 72 mph curveball has tight 11/5 rotation and shows consistent two-plane break. The athletic junior also commanded his 79 mph changeup well with some arm-side run at fastball arm speed.
9/26/15 Looks every bit the 6-foot-3, 215-pounds he's listed at on the roster. Easy delivery generated a fastball at 82-84 (touching 85) with more in the tank when he learns to incorporate his lower half. He also threw strikes with a solid curveball at 72-73 that had 11/5 tilt.
