4/11/18 A well-built, physical right-hander, the uncommitted junior impressed throughout the afternoon against a strong opposing lineup. Richardson held opposing hitters in check up until his final frame. There were moments were he struggled with his command, particularly when overthrowing his fastball, but the raw stuff is there. The fastball sat in the upper 80s all afternoon from a 3/4 slot, generating arm side run and swings-and-misses up in the zone, finishing with eight strikeouts on the day. There is some fade to the changeup on the arm side and the slider was up to 80 MPH. He gets deception with a slight shoulder hitch on the arm swing, before exploding towards the plate. Thick lower half that he should continue to engage. Unlikely to stay uncommitted for too long, a high follow this spring.
10/28/17 5-foot-10, 160-pound right-hander stood out in June at the Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase and has since seen a spike in velocity. Currently sitting 85-86 while bumping 87 mph, Petrik has significant arm side run to his fastball out of a 3/4 arm slot. A short arm swing and hip coil in his delivery combine to create deception. The junior gets similar movement on his changeup at 81-83 and uses a slider at 74-76 as his third pitch.
6/14/17 6-foot-2, 185-pounder who pitches out of a high three-quarter slot and stays on-line to the plate. Elastic arm action with some hook in back. Turns front shoulder in during delivery, while front hip stays open, limiting ability to get loaded over rubber. Closing off his lower half in his balance point could lead to plenty more to come from a fastball that sat 82-84. Mid-70s curveball had tight, late tilt, while he also mixed in a firm change-up at 77-78. Intriguing upside here.
