3/30/24

(‘24, Siegel) The senior Middle Tennesee commit did it all for the Siegel Stars this afternoon. The starting catcher for his squad was in left field because of a tweaked knee and he didn't miss a beat. He would show off his arm that usually leads to sub 2 second pop times in throwing out 2 runners at home by a wide margin. At the plate 2 for 3 with a no-doubt HR. Akers is going to continue to hit at a high level in his senior campaign for the Stars.

Layne Akers (Siegel, 2024) The MTSU signee has put on considerable weight since seeing him last spring and came into the contest much more polished both at the plate and defensively. He was on the barrel all night going 2-3 with two hard hit line drives for singles before turning those into essentially doubles with two stolen bags at 2nd. In his 3rd at bat, he got down to two strikes before choking up on the bat to put something in play with less than 2 outs and a runner at 3rd. He got a pitch up and drove it to left-field for a sacrifice fly to extend their lead. He would also score once with an overall very productive day at the plate. Catching, he showed great mobility and glove presence to work up underneath lower quadrant pitches to steal a handful of strikes and will be a mainstay in the top of the lineup for Siegel throughout the season.
