A powerful right-hander, Hutchins has plus sink on his fastball and pairs it with a changeup. His heater has been up to 98 at times, but he comfortably pitches in the 92-95 range. He has the stuff to be a top five round prospect, but as with most hard throwing college relievers, command is the key to his success. Last season at Blinn, the 6-foot-5, 210-pounder walked 37 in 39.2 IP with 52 strikeouts and a 4.76 ERA.
10.28.17 Hutchins, a recent Blinn JC recruit, stands 6-foot-4, 205-pounds, with a projectable pitcher's frame. The right-hander put together a solid outing, punching out three batters in one inning of work, two on changeups. He works from a high-¾ slot with short arm stroke. Good tempo in a drop and drive delivery, maintains good posture down the mound, athletic finish. Both fastball and changeup come from same window and have good depth. Turns his fastball over with heavy sinking action at 83-84 mph, topping out at 85 mph. Changeup is a plus pitch with heavy arm side depth from 73-76 mph.
07.25.17 - Hutchins has a strong, projectable, high-waisted frame at 6-foot-4, 200-pounds with broad shoulders. The right-hander works from a high slot with a short, compact arm stroke, and a quick hand from back to front. His fastball flashes downward tilt, ranging from 81-85 mph. Hutchins can really pull the string on his changeup, a pitch he throws with fastball arm speed at 73-75 mph with good depth at the bottom of the zone. He threw one breaking ball that he was on the side of at 69 mph.
