Getting the opening game start for the Patriots, Rich battled Missouri for 4.1 innings, allowing three hits, two runs while walking three and striking out six. Showing a reliever-type delivery with above average pitchability, he mixed a 90-93 mph fastball with late run and three offspeed offerings. The best of the three was an average mid-70s curve while also changing shape into a 79-83 mph slider.
4.10.18 Approximately 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, with a long-limbed, projectable pitcher’s frame. The right-hander works from a high slot with a quick arm stroke and regular effort down the mound. His fastball had great tilt to his arm side on Tuesday night with some heavy late life at 89-91 for most of the evening, topping out at 92 in the second inning. Held his velocity well throughout his six innings of work. Dominant performance, tons of strikes, pitched off his fastball for the most part and chewed up a solid Timber Creek lineup. Mixed his changeup in to left-handed hitters with fastball arm speed and good arm side depth. Only threw a handful of curveballs to right-handed hitters, with 11/5 shape at 69-70. Final line: 6 IP, 93 P, 0 R, 2 H, 7 K, 3 BB.
