VA/DC Scout Blog

6-foot-1, 180-pound athletic frame and has added visible strength throughout. First thing you notice about Dye is the physicality he has added to the frame and to his game in general. Dye is one of the best catchers in the state in the 2024 class and has definitely made some strides behind the plate. Above average receiver behind the plate with strong hands and the ability to turn borderline pitches into strikes. Between innings Dye made throws that ranged from 2.00-2.07, 77 mph catcher velo, and was accurate around the bag. Slight crouch in his stance at the plate, starts slightly open, and a small pickup and stride landing on line. Short to contact with a level path swing. The barrel stays through the zone and shows some adjustability. It is a defense first profile and the added physicality to the frame should advance the offensive skillset.

Richmond Braves Workout

Projectable athletic frame with long levers. Handles himself well behind the plate with advanced receiving skills for his age. Has above average catch and throw ability. Has the athleticism to play a corner infield/outfield right now. Displays some doubles power in the swing and moves well out of the box. This is going to be an exciting catcher to watch develop as he continues to grow into the frame.
