Defensively showed advanced catch and throw abilities, quick clean transfer, sits tall in the crouch. Advanced arm strength, 80 mph out of the crouch, carry through the bag, short over the top arm action. Posted 2.00-2.02 pop times. Offensively hits from an open stance, short stride with consistent loading action, maintains strong balance through contact. Well above average bat seed present, short path stays on top of the baseball, showed the ability to create backspin, line drive gap to gap approach. Flashes power potential, 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.47 runner in the 60.
2/9/14 - Strong build, 6-foot-1, 190-pound catcher. Offensively impressive, hits from an open stance, taller setup, short stride, maintains strong balance. Advanced bat speed, short path to the baseball, gap to gap approach with power. Makes hard contact, ball jumps off bat, loose hands generate whip through the zone. 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively uses a short over the top arm slot, creates carry and accuracy, 79 mph arm strength from the crouch. Efficient footwork, above average hands, hands transfer the baseball well. Posted 2.03-2.07 pop times from the crouch. Gilbert is a high level receiver with a strong bat that shows the ability to impact the game on both ends.
