Cape CodBig, strong left-handed hitting power prospect who generates the juice with a simple, balanced swing. Hussey’s raw power grades out to plus-plus (70) and he got to it during games, hitting 12 doubles and four home runs in 117 at-bats. His 83.2 mph average exit velocity on balls in play placed tenth among those with a minimum of 50 balls in play, his max EV of 103.3 placed 13th and his max distance of 410’ placed fifth. However, much swing/miss is also part of his game. He struck out 32% of the time for the Mountaineers this past spring and followed it up with a 34% rate this summer. To have any significant value in next year’s draft, this rate must be improved upon. Defensively, Hussey moves really well for his size and shows soft hands. He also has average to slightly better arm strength and projects to become at least an average defender at first base.

West Virginia commit. 6-foot-3, 225-pounder followed up his impressive performance at the West Virginia Preseason All-State showcase with another solid showing. Showcased 99 mph bat exit velocity with wood and turned in a strong batting practice round elevating balls repeatedly to the pull side. Ran a 7.07 laser timed 60-yard dash and showed athleticism around the bag at first base with accurate 80 mph arm strength across the diamond.

2/09/20

6-foot-3, 225-pound left-handed hitter continued to show why he is currently ranked as the top prospect in West Virginia's 2021 class. The physical junior starts from an open stance and initiates his swing from a high hands load with a controlled leg-hang stride. Displayed advanced rhythm and balance with solid lower half actions while routinely making loud contact during his round of batting practice. Registered an event best bat exit velocity of 102 mph and ran an impressive 6.87 60-yard dash. The primary first baseman worked out in the outfield on this date showcasing athletic actions with active feet and 88 mph arm strength to home plate.

2/24/19

Offensively, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound primary First Basmen displays a low effort swing that created huge pop off his barrel. Hussey registered a 92 mph exit velocity of the tee which continues to be a leader in the state. He continue to get better every time he shows up to an event. A 7.11-laser timed 60 was recorded.

Defensively, Hussey showed continued solid footwork around the bag to go along with an above average lateral mobility. His hands are very soft and his glove presentation is advanced.

11/18/18

Defensively, Hussey (West Virginia commit) showed solid footwork around the bag to go along with an above average lateral mobility. His hands are soft and his glove presentation is solid.

Offensively, he displayed a low effort swing that created huge pop off his barrel. Hussey registered a 95 mph exit velocity of the tee which was second best for the event. He seems to get better every time he shows up to an event. Hussey also recorded a personal best 6.90-60. Overall, he is one of the top prospects at 1B not only in West Virginia, but the entire country in the 2021 Class.

5/30/18

A definite bat to follow out of the state of West Virginia. Swings it from the left side, showing huge raw power for class in BP. What makes his power even more impressive is he does it with a lower effort swing. In game swings weren’t as aggressive but if he can translate what we saw in BP into game he is the type of left-handed power bat colleges love.

A physical bat from the left side. Stood out for his ability to generate impressive pop with a lower effort, smooth swing. Movements are fluid during loading sequence, with lower half creating regular timing. Strength is obvious through the zone and his slight loft to his path allows him to lift the ball naturally. Ball jumps off his bat, especially to pull side. Tied for an event high, 87 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the infield he is a corner guy with above average range at both spots. Reacts well off the bat and has solid lateral mobility. Hands are soft and present glove skills are above average for class. Threw with 76 mph arm strength across the diamond.
