Alabama Diamond Notes: Week 1

The Alabama Diamond Notes is a new feature for 2022 that will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday of the high school season that had impressive weeks during their team's games.
Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

For now, let's take a look at those players from across the state highlighted in this week's Alabama Diamond Notes.
diamond notes (feb. 17-26)
Eli Moore RHP / 3B / Gardendale, AL / 2022Moore had a fantastic outing versus Cullman as he went six innings and only allowed three hits and one ER with 15 Ks in a 3-1 win. He will be attending Harding University to play football. |
Jacob Burleson RHP / 1B / Cedar Bluff, AL / 2022The senior threw a complete game versus Chattooga (GA) in a 10-1 win. He only allowed one hit and walked one. He did not allow a run while striking out 15. He was also 3-5 offensively with two doubles and two RBIs. |
Bryson Goff LHP / 1B / Saraland , AL / 2023Goff earned a complete game win (6-1) versus Russellville, only allowing one hit and one earned run. He struck out 12 hitters and only walked three. |
James Sanders LHP / Robert E. Lee, AL / 2023The junior southpaw tossed a five inning perfect game in a 15-0 win over Midfield as he struck out seven over those five innings. |
Timothy Lambert SS / RHP / Robert E Lee, AL / 2023Lambert, another junior for the Generals, tossed a five inning no-hitter versus Jeff Davis as he struck out five. |
Maddox Macrory RHP / 1B / Oak Mountain, AL / 2022The Bevill State recruit has been splendid for the Eagles. Against Hartselle and Chelsea, Macrory tossed 10.2 innings while striking out 10 hitters in a complete game win over Chelsea. Offensively, the senior was 8-20 (.400 BA) on the week. |
Joseph Garrison RHP / 1B / Priceville, AL / 2023A recent Troy commit, Garrison was brilliant in his one start as he tossed six scoreless innings. He only only two infield singles while striking out 12 hitters. |
Thomas Kerby LHP / 1B / Priceville, AL / 2023Kerby had two apperances (one start) as he tossed six innings of scoreless baseball with nine Ks while only allowing four hits. |
Jackson Achimon LHP / Gulf Shores , AL / 2022The senior southpaw helped the Dolphins get off to a 7-1 start as he went nine innings on the mound with a 1-0 record and two saves. He struck out 10 hitters while allowing six hits and four earned runs. Opponents hit only .188 against him. |
Maddox Johnson LHP / Gulf Shores , AL / 2022Johnson went 1-0 with a save on the week over 7.2 innings as he only allowed two earned runs to go along with 10 strikeouts. His ERA for the week was 1.82. |
Joseph Stephens RHP / Gulf Shores , AL / 2024The sophomore right-hander did not allow an earned run on the week as he tossed 5.2 innings and was a perfect 2-2 on save opportunities. He only allowed three hits while striking out five and only walking one hitter. Opponents hit only .150 against him. |
Jacob McFarling RHP / 3B / Southside , AL / 2022The senior right-hander had a dominant week with two impressive wins over Sardis and Mortimer Jordan. Over his 14 innings on the mound, McFarling did not allow a run and struck oout 18 hitters. He only allowed five hits. |
Benjamin Arn LHP / 1B / Bob Jones, AL / 2023Arn, a junior left-hander, was impressive in both of his starts to begin the 2022 season. Opponents hit just .194 against him over his eight innings on the bump. He only allowed one earned run while scattering six hits. Arn struck out 10 and had a .875 ERA for the week. |
Logan Mooney LHP / OF / Athens, AL / 2023The junior left-hander earned a win versus Muscle Shoals as he went five innings with five strikeouts while only allowing one earned run. He scattered four hits and only allowed one earned run. |
Jake Thornton 3B / RHP / Madison County , AL / 2024Thornton has helped the Tigers get off to a 4-0 start as he tossed 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball. He only allowed two hits and struck out four while also playing an integral role at the plate. For the week, Thornton was 4-8 (.500 BA) with a double and four RBIs. |
Carter Gilbert RHP / Arab, AL / 2022Gilbert was impressive in Arab's wins over North Jackson and Albertville as he totaled 6.2 innings on the mound while only allowing one run. He only walked one hitter and struck out eight. |
John Michael Pickens LHP / OF / Hueytown , AL / 2023Pickens, a junior southpaw, had as an impressive week as anyone as he went 11.1 innings on the mound for the undefeated Golden Gophers. He did not allow a run while striking out 24 hitters (no, that's not a misprint). He was 1-0 with one save for the week. |
Peyton Watts SS / 2B / Oxford, AL / 2023The junior Troy commit continues to prove himself in a two-way role as he thew 9.1 innings for the Yellow Jackets. Watts struck out 10 and allowed four earned runs as he went 1-1 on the week. |
Carter Johnson SS / RHP / Oxford , AL / 2024Johnson, a sophomore right-hander, was also 1-1 on the week over his 10 innings on the mound. He only allowed two earned runs to go along with 11 strikeouts. |
Charles Harbin C / 1B / New Hope , AL / 2024Harbin, a sophomore catcher, had a fantastic week with the bat as he was 5-7 (.714 BA) on the week with two doubles and two home runs. He drove in seven runs while also walking three times. |
Max Morrison 2B / OF / Lindsay Lane Christian , AL / 2023Morrison was almost perfect for the week as he went 7-8 (.875 BA) with three RBIs while scoring three runs. The junior also had a stolen base for 1A #2 Lindsay Lane. |
Samuel Hogue C / RHP / Lindsay Lane Christian, AL / 2022The senior catcher, who is headed to Wallace-Hanceville CC, was equally as impressive as his teammate (Morrison) in helping Lindsay Lane get off to a 2-0 start. For the week, Hogue was 4-5 (.800 BA) with six RBIs. |
Judd Goolsby C / RHP / Florala , AL / 2023Florala HS is off to a 3-1 start and Goolsby has played an integral role in that start. For the week, the junior catcher was 7-13 (.538 BA) with three doubles and one home run while driving in five runs. Goolsby had six stolen bases and he also threw out 4/10 would-be base stealers. |
Bodie Vail OF / RHP / Northridge, AL / 2022The Shelton State recruit was 4-9 (.444 BA) for the week with two RBIs, one stolen base while also scoring three runs. On the mound, Vail got the win versus Sipsey Valley as he tossed five innings and did not issue a walk or give up a run. He struck out five hitters. |
Chase Ambrose RHP / SS / Buckhorn, AL / 2023Ambrose has helped the Bucks get off to a hot start as they are currently 4-0. Last week, Ambrose was 7-12 (.590 BA) with two doubles while driving in five runs. He also delivered the game-winning hit versus Bob Jones. |
Taylor Bush C / OF / Oak Mountain , AL / 2022Bush, an uncommitted catcher, started the season red-hot over the Eagles first seven games. He was 11-23 (.478 BA) with four doubles while driving in five runs. |
Dominic Maldet C / Gulf Shores, AL / 2023Maldet was instrumental in the Dolphins hot start to the season as he was 10-27 (.370 BA) with four doubles while driving in 10 runs. Maldet had an on-base percentage of .419 as he also walked once and was hit-by-pitch twice. |
Colby Franklin 2B / SS / Gulf Shores , AL / 2022Franklin was 11-31 (.355 BA) on the week with a .412 on-base percentage. He had a double with three RBIs and scored five runs. He also had a stolen base. |
Gavin Moran 1B / OF / Bob Jones, AL / 2022The uncommitted Moran, hitting in the heart of the Patriot order, was 8-21 (.381 BA) with a double and four RBIs. He scored four runs, walked six times and had two stolen bases. |
CJ Bush OF / RHP / Bob Jones , AL / 2023The uncommitted 2023 OF got off to a hot start for the 2022 season. Bush was 7-18 (.389 BA) with a home run and four RBIs. He scored three runs to go along with four stolen bases. |
Braden Booth 3B / RHP / Bob Jones , AL / 2024The sophomore Mississippi State recruit put up a very impressive stat line for the week. With the bat he was 6-19 (.316 BA) with a double, one home run to go along with four RBIs. He also walked eight times and scored seven runs. On the mound, he tossed seven innings and only allowed one earned run while scattering five hits. he struck out 10 hitters as opponents only hit .194 against him. He had a .875 ERA for the week. |
Riley Miller OF / RHP / Athens, AL / 2024The sophomore OF/RHP was 3-7 (.429 BA) with one triple and four RBIs. Miller also walked two times for the Golden Eagles. |
Ramiro Towers SS / RHP / Madison County, AL / 2022An Anderson University (IN) recruit Towers has been instrumental for the Tigers out of the lead-off spot as he was 8-14 (.571 BA) for the week. He had three doubles, one triple and two home runs. He also drove in eight runs and scored seven more. On the mound Towers tossed five innings and only allowed one hit and struck out 12 hitters. |
Nolan Daversa C / RHP / Madison County, AL / 2023Daversa was 7-14 (.500 BA) for the undefeated Tigers as a middle-of-the-order hitter. The uncommitted junior had three doubles while driving in five runs. |
Memphis Scott 2B / RHP / Madison County , AL / 2025Scott was 5-10 (.500 BA) on the week with a double and a home run. The freshman also drove in four runs and also scored four runs. |
Hayes Harrison LHP / 1B / Oxford, AL / 2023The uncommitted junior was 8-16 (.500 BA) on the week with a triple and three RBIs. He also walked one time and scored six runs for the Yellow Jackets. On the mound, Harrison went ten innings on the mound and only gave up two earned runs to go along with 13 strikeouts. Opponents hit only .184 against him. |
Hudson Gilman C / RHP / Oxford , AL / 2025The freshman C/RHP had a productive week with the bat for Oxford. Gilman was 4-8 (.500 BA) with two doubles and a home run. He also walked twice and rove in four runs. |
