Recruiting Roundup: 8.11.17

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

As the summer winds down, recruiting will heat up from now through November. Each we will run a recruiting round up until Friday November 3rd. As the early signing period begins Wednesday November 8th. Please keep us in the loop on all commitments and recruiting activity.

Weekly Rundown

Sunday kicked the week off with 2018 CIF/RHP Aaron Mann, Central High School, committing to Drury University. Mann has been a staple for the Tigers the past three season as pitcher and has anchored the middle of the lineup. It looks as he will be given the opportunity to let the game decide if he is a pitcher or a hitter moving forward.

Wednesday was busy a day as two Top 25 players in the 2018 class made commitments. 2018 RHP/CIF Will Richardson, Woodlawn HS committed to Arkansas State University. Richardson has been a steady producer on the mound, competing in the strike zone from a ¾ arm slot with a mid-80’s fastball. He showed off raw power in the state finals for Woodlawn and continued the production for Sticks Baseball Academy this summer, making him a true two-way player for the Red Wolves. 2018 MIF Pate Fullerton wrapped up his recruiting committing to Jefferson County CC. Fullerton decommitted from Harding University earlier in the summer, and looks to have found a home. He is an advanced middle infielder with fluid action and a strong arm. Offensively he shows consistent production with a line drive swing, which he has used to consistently to hit balls to all fields.

Earlier in July we missed the commitment of 2018 C Zakery Whitis Vilonia HS as he committed Harding University.

On Deck

2018; There will be a bevy of players start coming off the board, as players a narrowing their choices, and receiving offers, as the pool of colleges recruiting their class has expanded greatly over the last 3 months. 2018 PJ Hilson OF/RHP continues to ride the wave of success from East Coast Pro and has picked up some large offers, his recruiting will end rapidly.2018 MIF, Matt Aiken could be the next Woodlawn Bear to make his college commitment, as he is sorting through multiple offers and seems to be a name that is heating up. 2018 RHP Ty Johnson from Clinton HS, is a name to watch, as a premium bullpen arm, that should be gaining plenty of interest.

2019; OF Brandon Ulmer, Booneville HS, has picked up offers this week and it is looking multiple schools are competing for his commitment. C John Hoskyn will gain some recruiting traction after his performance at the Futures Games in front of 170 NCAA Division I colleges.

2020; LHP/OF Nick Griffin, RHP Luke Davenport, and MIF/OF Beau Stuckey also played in the Futures Games, they will at least be added to team’s radar after last week. CIF G Allen and CIF Cayden Wallace, are still the front runners, to be the next commitments from the 2020 class. 2020 MIF Marcus Brown is a name that is starting to surface more and more.
