2016 TOS: Second Workout Day

By Nathan Rode
National Supervisor

CARY, NC—Friday at the Tournament of Stars was a workout day, though with Thursday night’s game being suspended, the Free and Stripes teams finished their game in lieu of the workout sessions. LHP Brendan Murphy (Mundelein HS, IL) and RHP Jeremiah Estrada (Palm Desert HS, CA) started for their respective teams, which was halted in the bottom of the fourth.

Estrada has an athletic frame 6 feet, 173 pounds and long arm action. He doesn’t always get back over the rubber, which led to some wildness in his outing. He was 91-94 mph in his first inning and then worked at 91-92 in the second. His fastball has downward angle at times, but left a lot up in the zone and it flattened out. He lacks secondary stuff now and his curveball ranged from 73-77 with varying shape. His changeup did flash fading action, sitting 79-82. Estrada is committed to UCLA.
