LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - PBR California's annual preseason tournament is back. A talented group of teams from Los Angeles/Orange County that consistently hold spots in our Power 25 Rankings will clash in some high competition and exciting baseball. This tournament has massive implications for our rankings and will give everyone a first glimpse into how these teams will hold up against top competition. Make sure to follow along with these roster previews and keep an eye out for dates, bracket matchups, and coverage for the tournament in the coming weeks.

We (start/continue) with the Etiwanda Eagles, a CIF-SS Division I school out of Rancho Cucamonga, CA. competing in the Baseline League. Led by 14th year head coach Don Furnald, the Eagles went 19-8 overall and 13-2 in the Baseline League to claim the league championship last year, their 5th title in the last 7 years.

Etiwanda enters the 2024 season with three commits who are expected to make big impacts in ’25 INF Jaeden Toki (LBSU) and ’25 INF Ryan Severns (UCSB) and a veteran presence from ’24 OF Chris Montes de Oca (Cedarville).

“We return 11 players from our League title team in ’23," said Furnald. "We will be younger and less experienced as several reserve or younger players from the ’23 team will be expected to fill starting roles for us”.

While there will be some spots to fill heading into the spring, the cupboard is not bare for the Eagles. "We do have some interesting underclassmen to keep an eye on in ‘25 C Luke Mendoza, ’26 P/INF Alvaro Moreno, ’26 P/OF Joshua Adams, and ’27 P/INF Michael Aleman who are looking to break into the lineup and rotation," said Furnald.

Despite the youth and newcomers in starting roles, Furnald is optimistic about next season. "We are excited to see a bunch of the younger guys and new starters get their opportunities to help us in pursuit of our 6th Baseline League title in the last 8 years," said the veteran coach.

We will get to see a full range of players and the first test at Etiwanda’s depth at the Prep Baseball California Spring Invitational as the Eagles look to solidify and define their lineup and rotation for the 2024 season.
