CCS FOCUS - WEEK 1
UNDERCLASS QUICK HITS:
‘22 OF/INF Andre Hyrkin (Palo Alto) - Athletic build showing strength in the shoulders and high waist; projection in frame. Balanced at the plate with a quick trigger on bigger kick; hand speed was evident with slightly upward path. Just missed some pitches being right on good velocity and could see him finding more consistency as he plays more. Arm strength in the OF was evident and also have seen him play the INF showing versatility.
‘23 SS/2B Jaden Mingus (San Benito) - Projectable young middle infielder showing strong glove actions and the understanding to be a contributor in the middle of the field as a freshman. The compact arm kept throws online and as he grows should be an asset for him. Barrel was compact and showed good pitch selection during the game. Understood what he could do and executed as needed; coaches raved about his intelligence and expect him to contribute.
‘23 1B/LHP Matthew Pena (San Benito) - Came in late in the game with two high-quality AB’s before pitching outing showing ability to throw strikes. At the plate easy, quick hands that were ready to hit; the bat path was adjustable and showing bat speed as he took what was given to him. Two hard singles in the game with one through the middle and one to LCF; hit tool looks to be one that can keep improving. On the hill hands stay at the waist with a flat front leg and crossfire for ¾ release. FB 72-74 T75 fades and cuts and hard to pick up. SLD 61-63 slow, cross-plate actions with small depth. A strong follow from 2023 class.
