Central Coast Section, CA - Today's Central Coast Section (CCS) Focus covers my road trips from 4/3-4/19 and two games; Leland at Santa Teresa and Los Altos at Saratoga. With so much talent in the Central Coast Section, I wanted to give all players a chance to be seen and today’s version of the CCS Focus has game notes, player notes and in-depth player notes with videos.

As always, you can click the highlighted name for bio information, previous notes, stats, video etc.

GAME NOTES:

4/3/19 Leland at Santa Teresa: Leland wasted no time getting on the board when 2020 OF Carson Yates smashed a 1B through the middle before 20 OF Lucas Mirizzi was hit by a pitch with both coming around to score on 2019 RHP Micheal Garcia’s 1B through the 4-hole making it 2-0. Santa Teresa answered collecting 3 straight hits to make it 2-1. The Saints of Santa Teresa exploded for 9 runs on 7 hits, 3 BBs and 2 errors to break it open 10-2 as 2021 1B Tyler Rushmeyer had two hits in the inning. Leland wouldn’t go without a fight scoring 3 in the 4th inning with a 2B by 2019 SS Trevor Johannes being responsible for 2 of those. Santa Teresa answered getting 2 of their own with 2 hits and a BB making it 12-5. Leland still wouldn’t go quietly hanging up a 4 spot in the 6th on 5 hits making it a 12-9 game, but that would be it as Santa Teresa would avenge a loss on Tues to split the week 1-1.

4/4/19 Los Altos at Saratoga: The first 3 innings saw both teams get a few runners on base via errors without a big hit to put anyone on the board. That changed in the 4th when Los Altos 2021 SS Brock Susko got a pitch over the middle and homered to LF as the Eagles added 3 in that inning. Los Altos then went on to get one each in the 5th-7th innings to make it a 6-1 victory. Los Altos 2019 RHP Ryan Baum was the star going the entire game striking out 10, walking 1 and giving up 2 hits in the 1st 2 innings. The only run he gave up was unearned in the 5th as he attacked hitters all day and dominated for his 6th complete game of the season.

PLAYERS OF NOTE:

2019 OF Jacob Liquori (Santa Teresa) - Uncommitted. The lean and medium frame fits well in CF for the Saints where he used his speed to track down fly balls and take bases. Singled through the left side in his 1st AB before taking 3rd on another single in front of him reading the ball off the bat and using his aggressiveness to force a good throw. He was also able to execute and help the team, driving in a run during their big 2nd inning before just missing another hit when he lined a shot right at the RF to end the 5th.

2019 C Trevor Hagmann (Santa Teresa) - Culver-Stockton College Commit. Wide, thick medium frame had an aggressive streak at the plate and did damage with it driving a 2B over the 2nd baseman's head before another 2B down the RF line picking up 3 RBI while going 2-4. Fringy arm that was passable with balls out of the hand from a quick release (2.14-2.34) between innings and showed playable receiving and blocking skills behind the plate.

2021 1B Tyler Rushmeyer (Santa Teresa) - Uncommitted. 3-4 with 2 RBIs smoking two balls into the pull side of the field with a 1B down the LF line before a 2B over the LF head finishing with a clean 1B into the LCF gap. The frame is long and lean fitting well at 1st where he flashed some lateral ability and a soft glove that could make a pick. The frame can still add to it as well making Rushmeyer a 2021 that could blossom over the Summer/Fall.

2019 SS Trevor Johannes (Leland) - Uncommitted. Took good AB’s all day in the 3 spot for the Chargers finishing on base 4 times. Cleared the bases with a long 2B down the LF line showing late bat speed and had a patient approach looking for his pitch and drawing 2 walks when not finding it. At SS had some ups and downs misplaying a ball but also making a quick grab with the infield in to prevent a run from scoring. The arm was playable from a low, slingy slot and looks like a Utility type of guy at the next level.

2020 OF Kekoa Lopez (Leland) - Uncommitted. A name that had been passed over as he has been hitting well all season. Started in LF and has the frame to continue to grow and improve. Bat flashed some barrel control with an opposite-field 1B and fly out to LF. Very calm and controlled swing keeping his head still and balanced through contact. Arm fits best in LF but could see him filling CF on an as-needed basis.

IN-DEPTH COVERAGE:

2019 RHP Ryan Baum (Los Altos) - Uncommitted. Long, lean and large frame with squared shoulders and high waist; still room in the frame for added strength
